Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 400

Sienna Sloan knew Silas Draken too well.

He was a master of manipulation, using others to do his dirty work.

He never made meaningless deals, nor did he offer easily attainable chips.

There were no free lunches, let alone a deal where Silas willingly compromised.

"No."

Sienna withdrew her gaze, instantly seeing through the trick. "This completely goes against your character, Silas. What exactly are you plotting?"

Silas raised an eyebrow. "What character?"

"Deeply scheming, harming people without a trace," Sienna said evenly.

"You want me to invite Maloney for a meal? Just a meal? Silas, do you think I was born yesterday?"

Silas maintained his faint smile, looking innocent and harmless.

"What could I be plotting? A public restaurant, people coming and going, brightly lit.

Besides, you now hold more than half of the Sterling family's shares, making you the nominal head of the Sterlings.

Maloney is second-in-command. Who would dare touch either of you in broad daylight?"

He spoke flawlessly, his logic airtight.

But the doubts in Sienna's heart didn't diminish in the slightest.

She stared intensely into his predatory gaze, trying to discern his true motives.

But his eyes were shrouded in mist, leaving only a bottomless, dark abyss that gave her nothing.

She wasn't afraid of something happening.

She was afraid because she didn't know what would happen.

That was the most terrifying thing about Silas.

He wasn't the type to put a knife to your neck.

He was the type you'd have dinner with, only to realize three days later that he'd sold you out, and you had even helped him count the money.

Before she could delve deeper, Silas's tone suddenly grew oppressive and threatening.
