As she spoke, she lifted the hem of her skirt and pulled back her sleeves.
Just as she claimed, her calves and upper arms were littered with scars and marks.
After revealing them, Celeste purposefully directed a pitiful, teary-eyed gaze toward Jarred.
It was as if she desperately wanted him to see exactly what kind of hellish life she had been living recently.
Sure enough, Jarred's brow furrowed heavily.
The usually silent and hardened man stared ahead, his emotionless eyes filled only with a deep, unreadable gloom.
He didn't speak up to defend Celeste.
But the large hand clamped around Sienna's wrist inexplicably tightened its grip.
The pressure caused Sienna to wince in pain.
She looked up, clashing with Jarred's brooding dark eyes.
Once again, the truth was laid bare before her.
It didn't matter how glaring Celeste's flaws were. It didn't matter how pathetic her lies sounded.
Jarred's stance today remained unshakeable from start to finish.
He was going to protect Celeste.
Even knowing she was a fraud, even knowing she had suffered grievances.
Sienna refused to spare them another glance. With a sudden jerk of her wrist, she violently tore herself free from his iron grip.
The onlookers, whose eyes had been glued to the fragile, helpless Celeste the whole time, collectively drew a sharp breath.
For a young girl to endure such relentless agony...
The crowd's whispers shifted back to heartbreak and pity for Celeste.
Seeing the tide of public opinion swing back in her favor, Celeste believed she had secured her victory.
However, Sienna simply smiled and nodded. "You're right, that certainly explains the needle marks. But..."
She suddenly leaned closer to Celeste, wrinkling her nose as she sniffed. "Why do I smell psychiatric medication on you?"
Celeste's eyelashes fluttered wildly in panic.
