The next morning.
The office was perfectly quiet as Sienna sorted through some psychological evaluation reports.
Her phone, resting on the desk, suddenly buzzed.
The name flashing on the screen was Silas Draken.
Sienna narrowed her eyes, pausing before answering.
She had just asked him about the forged suicide note last night.
Silas had told her the forger would be hard to track down.
So why was he calling her now?
She remained highly guarded around him.
The man controlled an elite underground auction house, operating deep in the gray area. He was ruthless, calculating, and lacked an ounce of real warmth.
They barely interacted, and they certainly weren't friends.
They were more like mutual assets—familiar clients who kept each other in check but trusted nothing.
Silas never made small talk. If he was calling, it was business.
Sienna picked up, her voice flat and perfectly detached. "What do you want?"
A lazy, mocking chuckle filtered through the speaker. His tone was casual, carrying a deceptive warmth that made it impossible to read his true intentions.
"Ms. Sloan, free to drop by for a cup of tea?"
Before he could keep playing games, Sienna cut him off coldly. "No."
She was about to hang up when his wicked laugh rang out again.
"I'm hosting a VIP auction today. You might find some very interesting items... or people. It'd be a tragic shame if you missed it."
"Skip the riddles." Sienna flipped a page in her file. "Get to the point."
"Tsk, so icy. Fine, consider this a free tip..." Silas chuckled softly.
"Your mother-in-law is here. She's negotiating a deal with a massive buyer, and that buyer is holding a rather exquisite piece. Something that looks awfully familiar to me."
Sienna's hand froze over the file. "What is it?"
