Jarred let out a heavy sigh.

Taking in the stubborn defiance on Sienna's face, he reached out and gently tipped her chin up.

His warm breath, carrying his faint signature scent, brushed against her skin. His voice was low and gravelly.

"The people you hate won't be around to bother you anymore. Can you dial back the hostility a little?"

Sienna looked at him with absolute indifference. "You really think that's the only reason I despise you?"

Jarred's Adam's apple bobbed, a dark shadow crossing his eyes.

He knew exactly what she meant, but he was tired of having this argument.

"What happened to my grandfather was likely an accident. Nobody in the family is holding you accountable, so you need to let it go.

Once I have her settled abroad, we go back to the way things were. No more talk of divorce. Understood?"

Sienna stared at his face, masking all his arrogance as sincerity. She genuinely couldn't tell if he was this blind or if something had completely warped his reality.

She let out a dry laugh and was just about to rip into him.

"Boss!"

One of his subordinates came sprinting over in a panic. Seeing Sienna, he quickly dipped his head in respect.

Jarred shot him a dark look. "What?"

"We found a hidden door inside the Azure Ridge cabin," the man reported quickly.

Sienna's eyelashes fluttered as her stomach plummeted.

Jarred frowned. "What door?"

"It's made of an unusual alloy. We tried everything, but we can't breach it. There has to be a hidden chamber behind it."

A sharp, dangerous glint flashed in Jarred's pitch-black eyes.

The subordinate continued, "Our guys are holding the perimeter. Boss, do you want to head over and take a look?"

Before Jarred could speak, Sienna cut in, refusing to let him process the information. She snapped in pure annoyance.

"Jarred, what the hell is this? I thought you were taking me home? Do you have any idea what time it is? Some of us actually have to work tomorrow."
