"Speak! Where exactly is the ancestral necklace?!"
Crushed under the immense pressure, Helena completely broke down, her legs giving out as she collapsed to the floor.
Her voice was a stuttering, sobbing mess.
"Mother... I, when I was trying to buy that one-of-a-kind royal sapphire... the seller only accepted trades of equal value, no cash...
I, I didn't know what else to do, so I took the necklace... and used it as collateral for the trade..."
Boom!
Those words detonated like a thunderclap in the living room.
The matriarch's blood boiled instantly, a heavy blockage slamming into her chest as her vision went pitch black.
Her body swayed violently, and she nearly toppled straight backward.
"You... you absolute lunatic!!"
She roared with every ounce of strength she had, her voice trembling with apocalyptic fury.
The young maid standing nearby reacted instantly, rushing forward to catch the matriarch's swaying frame.
She hurriedly pulled out the nitroglycerin pills and fed them to her.
It took a long time for the matriarch to finally catch her breath. Her chest heaved violently, her eyes blazing with hellfire.
Glaring at Helena, she gripped her cane and swung it down viciously onto the woman.
"How dare you!!" the matriarch roared.
"That necklace is the foundation of the Sterling family, passed down by our ancestors! Generations of matriarchs guarded it with their lives, barely daring to even touch it!
You dared to secretly trade it for some outsider's trash? You've lost your damn mind! You reckless fool!"
The cane rained down on Helena's back and shoulders.
Heavy and merciless.
Helena shook with agonizing pain, but she gritted her teeth, not daring to dodge or fight back.
She could only curl into a ball, weeping loudly while raising her arms to block the blows, cowering frantically and begging for mercy.
