Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord novel Chapter 96

Chapter 96: Giving in (1)

"Was I to inform someone to bring you something, Milady? You keep glancing at the door," Agnes said, finally speaking up.

Agnes doubted Selene was reading the book in her hands since she constantly looked at the door.

"No. I," Selene started but didn’t want to share her thoughts. Instead, she closed the book since it didn’t have her attention. "What time is it now? It is quite late."

Agnes looked out the window. "It is the perfect time to walk around. The night air isn’t too cold. Would you like to go for a walk or is it that you want to rest?"

"No," Selene shook her head. "I have walked around enough for the day and I am not tired. The estate has come alive at this hour."

"Well, it is the time most fitting for vampires to roam. They are cleaning up what was left from your dinner with Lord Blackthorn. Oh," Anges said, now realising what was troubling Selene.

Selene wished to know what caused Agnes to avoid her eyes. "What is it?"

"I didn’t realise at first you were waiting for the lord to return," Agnes replied.

"I am not waiting for him. Truly," Selene added since Agnes didn’t seem convinced. "I wasn’t."

"Then I was mistaken," Agnes answered, lowering her head so Selene couldn’t see her face.

"I know that you do not believe me. I spent many hours by his side today. I am enjoying the break from him teasing me. You were wrong with what you assumed," Selene said, trying to hide the truth.

"I was mistaken," Agnes agreed, trying to hold her laughter so she wouldn’t embarrass Selene. "But if you were, it would not be wrong for you to miss your husband. I will never judge you."

"I know you would not but in this case, I was not missing him. You are acting like he was away from my side for days. You are free of your duties. You don’t have to tend to me now," Selene said, sending Agnes away so she wouldn’t need to face the truth.

"I will be near if you need me," Agnes said, curtsying before she left Selene’s side. It was fun for her to see Selene denying that she missed the lord.

Perhaps it was because Selene didn’t want anyone else to overhear it and tell the lord for him to tease Selene.

Selene felt relief after Agnes left her side. Should Xavier ever think she missed him then he would not let her hear the end of it.

Selene stood up to leave the room she had claimed as her own to pass the time in. She had not thought yet of what to do in her spare time.

"Don’t," Selene warned her mind.

Why did she need to be so cursed to hear Francesca’s suggestion in her mind now?

Selene wasn’t tired but she decided to go to bed without Xavier so she could get over this day and forget everything that happened. She wanted to forget the gathering with the women to what Xavier revealed about Oliver and Fiona. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

Selene exited the room and headed to her bedroom. The good thing about this was she would be asleep by the time Xavier returned her.

To Selene’s surprise, when she opened the door she was immediately met by the sight of Xavier undressing.

"Why?" Selene asked, puzzled by his presence here. Why hadn’t anyone informed her that Xavier was back?

"You!" Selene exclaimed, reaching behind to cover where his lips touched her. Selene turned around to face Xavier which proved to be a terrible idea.

Selene fell victim to his smile. She had placed herself right in his trap.

"This is why I missed you. Only you could excite me this way," Xavier said, tucking her hair behind her hair.

To distract herself from the thoughts starting to fill her mind Selene asked, "Is it done? I do not want to say his name."

"No one outside this room could hear us speak and yes, it is done. I tasked Lucas to take care of what was left. Do you not care to check if I was hurt? I might be bruised somewhere," said Xavier.

Selene smiled since she didn’t believe he had a bruise. "I would have smelled the faintest scent of blood and if you were injured, you would have healed by now. Besides, I was already certain he wouldn’t be able to go up against you. He has always been all talk while you have strength."

"What?" Selene asked, puzzled by him resting his head on her shoulder as he laughed. "Were you close by when you got rid of him? It wasn’t long ago that I went to sit in my private room and if you just returned, Agnes would have run back to tell me."

Did Agnes not see him arrive? It was impossible since there was only one path to take to get to their room.

Xavier said he was fast but Selene suspected there was more to it.

Selene grabbed a handful of her dress as if pulling courage from there. "Xavier," she said his name casually for the first time.

He wasted no time raising his head from her shoulder to look at her.

"This time you must tell me what you know I want to hear," Selene said as she released her dress to palm his face with her hands. "Tell me a secret you don’t want others to know," she said and then tiptoed to hold up her end of the deal.
