Betrayed? I Upgraded to His Billionaire Brother novel Chapter 241

Chapter 241

Chloe, hearing the blatant jealousy in his tone, immediately took the gift bag from my hand. “I’ll take this inside for you. Don’t be out too late.”

With that, she strode toward our apartment door, the entire process–walking, opening the door, closing it–so fluid it could have been a single, practiced motion.

Third–person POV

Downstairs, the living room was pitch black, save for the sparse city lights filtering in from the skyscrapers outside.

Zane sat slumped in the sofa, his gaze desolate and fixed on the cake box on the coffee table.

For a moment, it felt like he suddenly understood how Elara must have felt in the past.

During all those holidays… had she been waiting for him to come home, just as lonely as he felt right now?

He didn’t know how much time had passed before the sound of high heels finally echoed from upstairs. The stagnant pool of his eyes finally stirred. He rose abruptly.

Chloe was a little surprised to hear the knocking.

She scrambled off the couch and hurried to the door. “Back so soon…?” she started.

“Where’s Elara?” Zane’s gaze swept past her, scanning the apartment behind her. The stirring in his eyes was threatening to become a raging storm. “She’s not home?”

A quiet alarm bell went off in Chloe’s mind. This guy has truly lost it.

The divorce was final, yet he was still acting like the wounded husband, putting on this whole tragic, devoted act.

The little alcohol she’d had at dinner was like juice to her; her mind was sharp. Her expression remained perfectly normal. “There was an emergency at the lah. She had to go back.”

Setting aside jokes, in her eyes, the relationship between Elara and Gavin amounted to this: Gavin had looked after Elara for nine years. They’d grown up alongside each other.

But others might not see it that way. Mentioning it at the wrong time could invite gossip. Especially to Zane, the ex–husband.

Zane’s eyes narrowed slightly, but he maintained his usual gentlemanly demeanor. “Alright. Sorry to bother you.”

With that, he turned and left, appearing calm. But he went straight down to the underground garage.

He drove at high speed toward the research institute.

Even though Chloe had seemed flawless, his instincts were screaming. He had to find out. Where was his Elara right now? What was she doing? And who was she with?

Windsor Group had 24/7 security. Patrols were stricter late at night to prevent any unscrupulous individuals from trying to pull something when the building was mostly empty.

Especially with the current R&D project–management had made it clear it was top priority. No mistakes were allowed.

Therefore, the moment Zane’s car pulled up at the entrance, a security guard stopped him. “What can I do for you, sir?”

I’m here to see someone.”

“Who? Which department?”

“RAD. Elara.”

R&D… Hold on a sec.”
