Betrayed? I Upgraded to His Billionaire Brother novel Chapter 242

Chapter 242

It would never, ever occur to me that he’d made it himself. So, I was brutally honest. “It’s kinda ugly. Don’t go to this place again.”

A muscle near his eye twitched. He cleared his throat and gave a serious nod. “Yeah. Probably got damaged on the way over. Make a wish first.”

I recognized this look on him. It was… familiar.

I paused, my voice slow with dawning realization. “This cake… you didn’t.. make it yourself, did you?”

His long, elegant fingers struck a match and lit the candle.

Hearing my question, his movement hitched almost imperceptibly. He’d just shaken out the match when his phone, in his trouser pocket, rang–perfect timing.

He naturally started walking toward the balcony, pulling out his phone to answer it, his voice flat.

Talk.”

“Boss.” It was Neil on the other end.

I knew it was Neil, but I couldn’t hear the conversation. I just barely caught words like “divorce.” Then I saw him–those deep blue eyes suddenly locked directly onto me, sharp and blazing, churning with some fierce, complicated emotion.

But by the time he ended the call and strode back toward me, all that was left was a reckless, unburdened intensity!

I could feel the violent shift in his mood, and a nervous flutter started in my chest. “Should I still make a wish?”

He reached out and killed the main lights in the living area, closing the distance between us in two quick strides. The candle flame swayed with his

movement.

The next second, his hands were on my waist, lifting me onto the dining table before he spoke, his voice low. “Make your wish.”

Yet, he gave me zero time to actually make one, his mouth capturing mine in a searing kiss.

He was claiming, conquering, leaving me no room at all to resist.

This time, even his breath was scalding hot.

The hand on my waist, burning through the thin fabric of my clothes, made me shiver.

The sheer intensity of the kiss felt frantic, and it scared me a little. I struggled, my words muffled against his lips. “I–I thought I was making a wish?”

He acted like he didn’t hear me, one hand gripping my waist, the other cradling the back of my head, leaving no room for refusal.

Until both our breaths were ragged.

Until we were both gasping for air.

Only then did he slowly pull back from my lips, resting his forehead against mine, as if unwilling to truly end it, gently kissing the corner of my mouth. Between kisses, Gavin suddenly reached over and snuffed out the candle on the cake. Then he scooped me up and headed straight for the bedroom!

Even with his arms supporting me, being carried like this left me feeling unsteady. My legs instinctively wrapped around his waist.

A faint alarm bell went off in my head. Something was veering into dangerous territory.

The trigger was that phone call.

Even now, I could feel his emotions hadn’t settled.

But he had no intention of giving me time to process. His long legs covered the distance steadily and swiftly, and soon I was pinned beneath him on the large bed.

My breath hitched. My eyelids fluttered uncontrollably.

Beneath me was the soft mattress. Above me was the man, his eyes dark with desire, his breathing heavy and restrained.

I licked my lips. “Are we… are we doing this now?”

From the day I signed that contract, I never thought I could avoid this.

Gavin’s gaze never left me for a second.

My lips were swollen and glossy from his kiss. My clear eyes were shimmering, but also clouded with a hint of tension and fear. As if I had zero experience with any of this.

The desire in Gavin’s eyes was a raging storm, his abdomen tight with strain. But with immense effort, he reined himself in, putting a little distance between us. He braced one elbow beside my head, his other hand gently tracing my eyebrow.

His voice was rough, like it had been dragged over sandpaper.

“How long were you planning to hide the divorce from me?”

The question came out of left field. I was caught off guard, my mind blanking for a second.

I had initially wanted to keep it from him. I was holding a grudge–an eight–year–old grudge that had once driven me to repeated breakdowns and made me terrified to trust anyone ever again.

But from the moment I told everyone in that private room that Zane and I were divorced, I hadn’t planned on hiding it from Gavin anymore.

The warmth of his hand on my cheek felt like a feather, sending tremors through every pore. My voice came out strangely soft. “I thought about hiding it from you before… but I’m not now…”

My thought process was: since the cat’s out of the bag, fine. Let him say whatever he wanted. I’d take it. It was my own fault for misjudging someone so badly.

But to Gavin, my words meant something else entirely.

His girl was starting to be honest with him again, like she used to be.

Did that mean she might start to trust him again?

Slowly, could he become someone important to her again?

The thought made the desire in his eyes surge, dark and overwhelming. The last shred of his restraint shattered. It was as if all the emotions he’d suppressed over the years were demanding release, right here, right now!

He didn’t want to hold back anymore!

He couldn’t.
