Chapter 276
Chapter 276
Then she stormed back into the dining room. A trembling finger shot out, pointing accusingly at the salmon on the table as her anger finally erupted.
“What is the meaning of this? just because my mother–in–law and grandmother aren’t eating, you think you can slack off and serve my son and me this sloppy. overcooked salmon?!”
The kitchen servant was stunned. “Eldest Young Madam, we would never! Tonight’s dishes were prepared exactly the same way as always, the same steps, the
same…”
“Are you saying it’s my fault?!” Amelia sneered. “That I’m just finding fault with you?!”
The servant fell silent, terrified. “No…”
‘If not, then what are you standing there for? Whoever cooked dinner tonight is fired! Pack your things and get out!”
After this outburst, Amelia felt a bit more settled.
After dinner, Max pestered her to come play in the toy room.
While he played with his toys, she lay on the sofa scrolling through her phone.
After a while, Max suddenly spoke up. “Mommy, the fish tonight wasn’t smelly…”
‘Wasn’t it? Is your sinusitis acting up again?”
‘Nuh–uh.” To prove his breathing was clear, Max took an exaggerated, deep breath.
Amelia, seeing he really didn’t have a stuffy nose, was puzzled. “But Mommy really thought it smelled so fishy…” Halfway through the sentence, she froze. Her breath hitched.
After a few stunned seconds, she shot up from the sofa and rushed back to her room in a daze, frantically rummaging through a drawer until she found a pregnancy test stick. She hurried into the bathroom.
In the short, agonizing minutes waiting for the result, she barely breathed.
When two clear red lines appeared on the stick, she let out a strangled cry of fury and hurled it across the room! She then swept her arm across the vanity. sending all the toiletries and skincare products crashing to the floor!
A frenzy of destruction!
he was pregnant!
Amelia was horrified to discover the child she was carrying belonged to that grotesque freak from the Vanderbilts family.
he was absolutely furious. Her hands balled into fists, and she struck her own stomach in a fit of rage.
That one time… the guy was ugly but had twisted tastes. He had refused to wear a condom, insisting on going bareback. He’d fed her some line about having Izoospermia, that he couldn’t get her pregnant.
And she’d fallen for it! He’d lied to her!
Amelia was on the verge of a complete meltdown, cursing everyone she could think of in her mind. That old hag from the Windsor family. The Vanderbilt freak. And Elara! It should have been that bitch Elara carrying this bastard child right now!
“AAAAAAAGH!”
Knowing Victoria wasn’t home and the Grayson matriarch was confined to the first floor, Amelia let out a hysterical scream, venting her frustration.
rage
and bitter
Yes.
Chapter 276
This child could not stay.
She pulled out her phone, frantically searching for an appointment with an OB GYN,
“What on earth is all this racket so late at night?!” Victoria’s voice suddenly came from the other side of the bathroom door.
Amelia jumped. She quickly threw the pregnancy test into the trash, covering it with a handful of tissues, and turned off her phone screen before walking over to open the door.
Mom, I thought you were at your gathering with Mrs. Xu? You’re back early?”
‘If I hadn’t come back early, I wouldn’t have heard you having a fit!” Victoria shot her a sidelong glance, her eyes suspiciously scanning the mess on the bathroom floor. “What’s wrong with you? Don’t tell me you’ve gotten yourself into some disgraceful trouble again?”
Of course not!” Amelia feigned calmness, pulling a reason out of thin air. “I just… heard some news about Elara. Did you know, Mom, she’s become very dose with the Sinclair family lately?”
Then you’d better steer clear of her!” Victoria, terrified she might bring trouble down on the Zhou family, issued a warning. “And you’d better behave yourself. If I find out you’ve done anything to disgrace the Zhou name, your life won’t be worth living!”
‘I know! Don’t worry!”
Only after she had ushered Victoria out and closed the bedroom door did Amelia realize her back was soaked with cold sweat.
She opened her phone again and, with a fresh wave of fear, canceled the appointment she had just made.
If she went to the hospital, the Zhou family would find out with the slightest inquiry.
But…
This child…
Amelia narrowed her eyes. A plan began to form. This bastard might not just be a burden. It could be… useful.
Elara’s POV
Back at the apartment, the dinner with Gavin had left a sour taste in my mouth. He saw I was upset, walking quickly ahead of him as we got out of the car. He caught up, his hand closing around mine.
His voice was cool, laced with a hint of something soft, something trying to placate. “If I said I did regret it, would that make you feel any better?”
He’d never admitted this to anyone. But he had. Regretted it. On countless nights, the thought had haunted him–if only his power and influence had been strong enough back then, could he have kept me safe under his wing?
