Chapter 297 Even Better
Over the phone, Dominic’s voice was hoarse and equally cold. “We’re already like this. What’s the point of talking about it now?”
“So even if a man is in the wrong, his guilt should only be redeemed by a woman’s obedience, meekness, and fragility?” Aurelia sneered.
Was that why he had always protected Lauren?
Because she was so good at pretending to be weak.
“That’s not what I meant. I just…” Dominic began.
“None of it matters anymore.” Aurelia cut him off. “For those children, not coming into this world was probably for the best.”
If they had been born with a father who favored Lauren and her children in everything, that truly would have been living life in hell.
“Then let’s get a divorce,” Dominic said flatly.
Aurelia said nothing.
Dominic continued, “There’s no going back for us. Keeping this up is pointless.”
“You probably still don’t understand why I’m ‘keeping this up,’ do you?” Aurelia said with a cold laugh.
Dominic fell silent.
Aurelia sneered, “Still talking about ‘point’? You think I’m holding onto this marriage because I want some meaningful future with you? How amusing!”
Meaning?
The whole thing was meaningless from the start. She wasn’t continuing it for the sake of sentimental meaning.
Her tone was pure mockery.
Dominic’s voice hardened. “So you’re really doing this for revenge?”
“Yes,” Aurelia said-blunt as ever.
That made Dominic, on the other end of the line, restless. “If anything happens to them, do you think you’ll get away with it?”
“Whether I get away with it or not is none of your concern. You should worry about what might happen to them.”
“Why?” Dominic finally exploded.
This level of retaliation spoke of pure hatred.
“Don’t even think about a car,” Aurelia said dismissively. “They had plenty of energy and cleverness when they were the ones oppressing others.
“Since they had so much energy with nowhere else to spend it before, they can put it all to good use now on things that actually matter, don’t you think?”
Didn’t they love to mess with people?
Well, why not channel all that energy they used to waste on causing trouble into something actually useful for them now?
Before Dominic could respond, she hung up.
This was her attitude now when she answered his calls.
For Dominic, it was infinitely more infuriating and despairing than when she simply ignored him.
In the office, Dominic smoked cigarette after cigarette. Aurelia’s actions lately were giving him a constant, throbbing headache.
He felt like he was being driven insane.
