Julian smiled without speaking, a clear confirmation of her suspicion.
Isabel thought back on her time with Adrian... and felt sick to her stomach.
It was strange. The man she had once loved so deeply, the marital intimacy she had once yearned for...
After everything had changed, her feelings were now completely different.
Being forced was a terrible feeling.
She now understood it profoundly.
Perhaps that was how Adrian had felt when he married her.
That must be why he kept dragging his feet on the divorce.
It definitely wasn't because he liked her.
From start to finish, this was all his retaliation for her demanding a divorce.
"What have you been up to?" Evelyn saw the look on Isabel's face turn instantly foul and decided to change the subject. "What are you thinking about? Talk about it, don't just dwell on it by yourself."
Isabel stood up to go to the restroom, and Evelyn went with her.
Isabel seemed to need an outlet. She and Evelyn were close, and there was nothing she couldn't say.
But talking about something like that was still difficult.
Evelyn guessed. "That son of a bitch!"
Isabel took a deep breath. Since Evelyn had already figured it out, she shared her thoughts.
She remembered Evelyn and Amanda had once said that no one could force Adrian to do anything. His marriage to her had been voluntary, so his excuse of being coerced into dragging out the divorce didn't hold water.
But she found it even more impossible to believe that Adrian liked her.
