Isabel thought of a possibility. "Then there's a high chance she's not actually dead."
Julian had a different opinion. "Not necessarily. Adrian is so crazy that if he didn't dispose of her body, she would still be trapped in the Grey Zone. If her faked death was exposed, the consequences would be even more severe."
"I think Adrian would consider that possibility too. He'd probably keep Selena's body for a few days to see."
Isabel wasn't particularly interested in these matters. Her goal had been to expose Selena's crimes to the world. Whether she was truly dead or just faking it, neither outcome was good for her.
"Don't overthink it." Julian reached out, his thumb gently smoothing the frown lines on her forehead. "Whether you have Selena or not, you were going to release X-1 anyway."
Isabel sighed and asked, "Is it really impossible to bring Amanda and her family here?"
Julian threw up his hands. "Andrew has a whole family. Bringing them over would be a huge ordeal. And what about all the employees at his company? Isabel, trust me, they're really fine in Westbridge."
"My guess is, right now, Adrian is most focused on capturing you, not Amanda."
Isabel's expression grew serious. "But if he captures Amanda, can't he use her to threaten me?"
"He still has Martha. That's enough to threaten you with."
Isabel was left speechless.
"I'm tired." Julian stood up. "Let our son keep you company. I'm going to get some sleep."
With that, he went upstairs to Miles's room.
Only then could Evelyn speak. "Mr. Reed might seem unreliable, but you can trust him."
At this point, Isabel had no choice but to trust him. She also had something to ask Edmund.
"That colored smoke you researched, the one you threw into the Grey Zone, was it poisonous, or addictive?"
Edmund quickly raised his hand. "Mommy, I was just trying to save you! I promise I will never do anything bad."
Isabel took his hand down. "I'm just asking. You don't have to swear. I believe you, of course."
...
At dinner, Mrs. Ashford asked Julian if he had seen Isabel in her wedding dress.
"In the Grey Zone, you used protection, right?"
"You must be confused. I can't have children."
"Oh, right. I forgot." Evelyn always forgot about that, because it was such a huge source of pain for Isabel.
"It's all that bastard's fault!"
Isabel, however, had come to terms with it.
She had already given birth to a child, and now she had a wonderful son.
So what if she didn't have a uterus? It didn't matter.
As someone who researched medicine, she naturally knew how to take care of her own body and prevent any further harm.
"You love to eat but you're afraid of gaining weight, right? I'll develop a special drug just for you, based on your body's data. Then you can eat whatever you want without getting fat."
