Evelyn’s eyes widened, and she threw her arms around Isabel.
“Are you serious?”
“Why would I lie to you?”
Evelyn squeezed Isabel tight and kissed her cheek. “I love you for this!”
Isabel pushed her away gently. “Oh, for heaven’s sake.”
...
The days flew by.
Soon, it was the wedding day.
Isabel was in the makeup chair first thing in the morning.
The internet had gone quiet about the incident at Julian’s villa.
Aside from smashing up the place, there had been no news of any other moves from Adrian in the past few days.
It was as if he had suddenly calmed down.
But that silence left her feeling deeply unsettled.
“You’re just nervous,” Evelyn said after hearing her worries. “No matter what the reason is for this wedding, it’s still a wedding. It’s perfectly normal to be nervous.”
Isabel wasn’t so optimistic. Her intuition had always been sharp.
But Julian had also been staying with the Ashfords for the past few days and hadn't gone out to do anything. Maybe she really was just overthinking things due to stress.
...
Julian had indeed stayed with the Ashford family for a few days, but on the night before the wedding, he was kicked out.
Miles, keeping him company at a hotel, was less than thrilled. “Hey, I’m on the bride’s side of the family. Do you really need me as one of your groomsmen?”
Julian grinned. “I need you as my rock.”
The procession to the hotel was a magnificent spectacle, a grand, celebratory affair that stretched for miles.
The hotel had closed for the day, exclusively hosting Isabel and Julian’s wedding.
The Durantin family was so large that they couldn’t all fit in the main hall and were spread across several other reception rooms.
But everyone wanted to see the traditional ceremony, so they all crowded into the largest ballroom.
As Isabel stepped out of the car at the hotel entrance, Julian swept her up into his arms and carried her inside with confident strides.
It was only then that Isabel saw old Mr. Reed, whom Julian must have brought over at some point.
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner? I would have gone to see Grandfather first.”
“Seeing him now is just as good.” Julian set her down and adjusted her red bridal veil.
Next, the pastor began administering the vows to the newlyweds.
