After speaking, he found Miles and explained the situation.
Miles stayed behind to manage the guests.
Julian took old Mr. Reed aside. “I’ll arrange a place for you to stay first. After I handle this, I’ll take you back.”
“No need. You go do what you have to do.”
Julian couldn't persuade him, but he did ask, “Since you came all this way, aren’t you going to see your son?”
“Even if it’s not to lay flowers, you should at least take a look.”
Old Mr. Reed refused. “I’m heading back. I won’t ask about what’s happening here. Just handle it properly. When you find Isabel, bring her over. I have some things to give her.”
“Okay.” Julian didn’t insist. He found Admiral Hawke and asked him to arrange for men to escort the old man back.
“Two will be enough, men who can operate in the country.”
Admiral Hawke immediately made the arrangements, then said to him, “There was no helicopter. The surveillance footage shows a vehicle entering, but it doesn’t look suspicious. Is it possible they haven’t left yet?”
Julian replied, “The Grey Zone can’t stay here long. There are people in the Durantin family who are their sworn enemies. Besides, he planted his own people here well in advance, so thoroughly that neither I nor the Durantin family could find them. He came prepared and must have already left.”
Admiral Hawke was puzzled. “If they didn't fly or drive out, how else could they have gone?”
Julian watched the surveillance feed and noticed a delivery truck. It was one of the vehicles that had been used for the wedding decorations.
However, the one that remained, though it looked identical, was not the same truck from that morning.
“Look for this type of truck,” Julian said, pointing at the screen. “And be quick about it. Once they’re out of the Fiorhaven Principality, it will be much harder to handle.”
Admiral Hawke reassured him, “Don’t worry. Even if they make it to the Grey Zone, I can still get her out for you.”
Julian smiled, thanked him, and handed him a cigarette.
Then he turned to comfort his fuming, newly acquired son. “Getting all worked up won’t solve anything. Don’t be upset. When I throw my next wedding, you can still invite that little princess.”
