As Adrian was confronting Kate, a car door opened from the inside.
He saw Isabel get out from the other side.
The bodyguard inside had a silver needle in his neck and was slumped in his seat.
Oliver chased after her but was left behind in the snow.
He watched as she walked toward Kate.
Just as his men were about to grab her, they found themselves staring down the barrel of a gun.
"Mr. Blackwell." Kate let Isabel get into her car first, then looked at Adrian with a mocking smile. "No one is going to wait for you forever. When you didn't want to care, you treated her with indifference. Now that you want to care, you think you can just beckon, and she'll run into your arms? Life doesn't work that way."
"Do you think love can be expressed with just words?"
Adrian's eyes were veiled in darkness, as if the snow and wind could settle on them. Her words had clearly hit their mark.
But he had always been confident, domineering, and arrogant.
"Since she was the one who said she loved me first, then no matter what I do, she has to love me. That was her choice. I didn't force her."
"But she wants to walk away so easily."
"Impossible."
Kate hadn't had much contact with Adrian, but she had heard plenty of rumors.
A genius.
They all had a streak of madness in them.
If Adrian truly went mad, she wasn't absolutely certain she could handle him.
"Mr. Blackwell, be smart about this. Otherwise, you'll lose Selena, and Isabel as well."
"Since you chose Selena so decisively from the beginning, then see it through to the end. You can't have your cake and eat it too."
Adrian sneered. "And what if I insist on having both?"
Kate said no more.
Looking at him, she saw that the Blackwells were all cut from the same cloth.
There was no point wasting breath on someone who wouldn't listen.
After Kate Caldwell and her entourage left, the snow grew heavier, covering the tracks they had left behind.
Adrian remained standing by the car.
"When he's better, we should all have a meal together. I'm a good cook. If you don't mind, please come and try."
"I'd like that." Kate offered her a warm smile. "I'll have a wedding gift ready for you. You prepare the wine. After that meal, you won't have to be so formal with me."
The drive wasn't long, and they hadn't said much of consequence.
Just simple inquiries about each other's well-being.
Isabel had no interest in how Adrian's crimes would be handled or what would happen to Selena.
"Okay, I won't be formal with you then."
She waved. "Drive safe."
Kate replied, "Go on."
Isabel closed the car door and hurried toward the hospital.
She was in such a rush that she almost slipped and fell.
Kate, who had been watching, was about to open her door to help.
But she saw Isabel steady herself and disappear into the hospital.
