"What's wrong?" Beasley asked as he approached.
When he saw his former father-in-law lying unconscious on the bed, his eyes widened in shock.
He started to move closer to check on Klein, but Willow, who had just hung up the phone, stopped him. "Don't you touch my dad!"
Beasley's hand froze in mid-air. He retracted it, straightened up, and turned to her. "Do you need me to pull the hotel's security footage?"
"The ambulance will be here soon. Send the footage to my phone," Willow said, positioning herself protectively in front of the bed, her expression wary.
If he dared to send it, she dared to watch it. Even if he didn't, or even had it deleted, she wasn't worried. Before leaving home, she had activated a hacking program on her computer that had already infiltrated the hotel's surveillance system.
"Do you think I have something to do with this?" Beasley stared at her for a long moment, his voice filled with disbelief. Her defensive posture left little room for other interpretations.
"I wouldn't dare," Willow sneered.
*Wouldn't dare? It looks like you dare quite a bit!*
Beasley was speechless, but more than that, he felt a profound sense of helplessness. Willow’s misunderstanding of him was as deep as his had once been of her. But now that the boomerang had come back to hit him, he finally understood how much pain she must have been in back then. He had no right to complain. This was what he deserved.
Silently, he took out his phone and instructed the hotel manager to pull up the night’s surveillance footage, specifically the clips involving Klein.
After he was done, he asked her, "Are you two being targeted by someone?"
Willow just stared at him, saying nothing. Her silence was more eloquent than words.
But Willow wasn't about to be manipulated by his words. Beasley was a successful businessman, skilled not only in strategy but also in persuasion. He could talk his way out of anything, turning black into white. Any trap he set would be meticulously planned, with both an offense and a defense, designed to ensure his prey couldn't easily escape.
"I've offended plenty of people. Just within your Windsor family, there's quite a few."
Beasley took her words as a sign of her anger. Even if she wouldn't confide in him, he was determined to find out who was trying to harm her.
Just then, the paramedics arrived. Willow climbed into the ambulance, and Beasley shamelessly followed her.
The hotel wasn't far from Kingston Medical Center, about a twenty-minute drive, so when she called for help, she had specifically requested they go there, to the hospital where Ian Lockwood worked.
Beasley remembered the hospital. He had been there once before, the time Willow had fainted after he forcibly kissed her. He watched her carefully, but besides her worry for her father, she showed no other unusual reactions.
