Rosamund was determined to claim the title of Mrs. Windsor; otherwise, it would be a waste of the second chance fate had given her.
What puzzled her, however, was how a simple-minded woman like Willow could have realized that Zoe Bellamy was trying to drug her. In her previous life, she had meticulously planned for Willow and Beasley to sleep together, and no one ever discovered the scheme, not even after Willow took her own life.
But this time around, not only had the incident drawn Beasley’s attention, but even a hidden pawn like Zoe had been exposed so quickly. Something felt off.
It wasn't that she was worried Beasley would trace it back to her. When she'd set him up with Willow, she was already studying abroad, far from the country. No one would ever suspect her. Besides, the only other person who could have revealed the truth had died in an accident. She had nothing to fear.
That was right. She had nothing to fear. Even if Zoe was in police custody, she would blame everything on Willow's professor father. So why did she still feel so uneasy? This unsettling feeling clung to her, robbing her of sleep.

In a holding cell, Zoe Bellamy was also wide awake. It wasn't because of the narrow, hard cot; she had slept in far worse conditions, even with rats crawling over her. Nor was it a guilty conscience—her conscience had been destroyed long ago by hypocritical men.
She was worried she would drag Rosamund down with her. Rosamund, the angel who had appeared in her life and secretly pulled her from a pit of despair, funded her education, and even helped her find her only living relative. If Zoe hadn't followed her brother out of suspicion and discovered the truth, she might never have known who her benefactor was.
Later, her brother told her that Rosamund was heartbroken because a woman named Willow had usurped her rightful place. But the kind-hearted Rosamund never fought back; instead, she chose to go abroad, leaving her heartache behind.
Zoe was terrified the police would discover that Rosamund had funded her education and connect the two of them. Even though Rosamund knew nothing about her plans, if Willow found out, she would surely make wild accusations.
That was why she couldn't sleep. But even if she couldn't ruin Willow's reputation, she could still destroy Klein's by pinning everything on him. Either way, Willow wouldn't get off easy.
Tomorrow morning, once the police called the university, it would all be set in motion. She had already anonymously paid off the tabloids. Soon, very soon, it would all come to a head.
Beneath her anxiety, a twisted thrill of revenge surged through her. This intense, out-of-control feeling was intoxicating.
