At six the next morning, Sanford called Beasley Windsor.
Beasley was resting in a hotel room near the hospital. He had been asleep for less than two hours when the phone jolted him awake.
Seeing it was Sanford, he answered immediately.
"Did you find him?" Beasley asked, his voice hoarse.
"I did," Sanford replied. "The man's name is Heller. He's unemployed. Like Zoe, he's an orphan who grew up in a group home before being adopted and later abandoned."
"Where is he now?" Beasley asked, his brow furrowed.
"He took a nine o'clock flight out of the country last night."
"Out of the country?" Beasley scoffed. "So he was planning to flee all along."
"All the money in his account was deposited through ATMs," Sanford added.
Cash again.
Beasley's cold eyes narrowed. "You've worked all night. Thank you for your hard work."
"Just doing my job," Sanford said matter-of-factly.
"Yes, just doing a job. So, this Heller, and that Zoe… who's paying them, and who are they working for?" Beasley mused. He couldn't figure out who held such deep animosity toward Willow and her father.
Connor Mitchell? He had already warned Connor, and he doubted the man had the guts to risk his entire family's business.
Could it be Emmett Simmons? But Emmett didn't know Willow was STAR, so what would be his motive for revenge? Besides, Beasley had people watching them both, and there had been no contact with Zoe or this Heller.
*Beasley, you'd better hope I don't find any proof against you.*
She put her phone away and walked to the bedside. Looking at her still-unconscious father, she spoke in a soft but resolute voice, "Dad, don't worry. I won't let the people who hurt us get away with this."
No matter how powerful her opponent was, or how difficult the road ahead, she would not give up.
As if hearing his daughter's voice, Klein's fingers twitched slightly.
Willow's sharp eyes caught the movement. She excitedly clasped his hand—the one without the IV line. "Dad, can you hear me?"
This time, Klein's eyelashes fluttered. He was responding to her voice! Willow's eyes welled up with happy tears.
Just after six, a doctor came in to check on Klein. Ian arrived as well, dressed in casual clothes instead of his white coat. He looked exhausted, with faint dark circles under his eyes. Willow made a mental note to bring him some nourishing soup along with her father's in the coming days as a token of her gratitude.
