"It's fine. Having a clear direction means there's hope," Waller comforted her.
"You're right!" Willow smiled, pumping herself up. "As long as we know where to look, we're not just running around blind anymore."
"How are things going with your new book?" Waller changed the subject.
Since they were eating, it felt more appropriate to keep the conversation light.
Willow happily slurped up a piece of ravioli before answering, "It's almost ready. I should have the final draft done by mid-next month, and then send it over to my editor for proofreading."
"I can't wait to read it," Waller said.
Surprised, Willow looked up. "You read my books?"
Waller nodded. "Actually, I read the novels you published in our past life. I just didn't know you were the author back then."
Willow paused, stunned.
It was a very surreal feeling.
"Well, when the new book is out, I'll give you a copy." IIn that moment, it was the only way Willow could think of to thank him for his support.
"Could you sign it for me?" Waller asked, watching her.
Willow was just putting a bite of food into her mouth. Catching her completely off guard, the request made her choke, sending her into a fit of coughing.
Seeing this, Waller quickly got up to pat her back, asking with concern, "Are you okay?"
He then rushed to pour her a glass of water, handing it to her. "Drink some water, take a breath!"
In truth, Willow was fine. She had just been startled by Waller suddenly asking for her autograph.
The more time they spent together, the more Willow realized Waller wasn't dull at all. In fact, he was quite funny sometimes, presenting a striking contrast to his usual demeanor.
"Thanks." Willow took the warm water from Waller and eagerly took a sip.
Waller watched her drink, hesitating for a moment before speaking up. "When I was patting your back just now..."
Willow stopped and looked up. "What is it?"
"Did you not feel anything?" Waller asked.
"Feel what?" Willow was completely lost.
"I remember before, whenever I got even slightly close to you, your body would instinctively tense up and go rigid."
