It was utterly insane. Kostas had completely lost his mind!

I raced back into my quarters, my heart pounding as I shot a glance toward the doorway, where the omegas were beginning to filter in. They couldn’t possibly get inside, could they? Nathan had assured me—

The first servant crossed the threshold, one foot stepping boldly over the line, followed by another, and then another.

What in the world was happening?

My eyes darted down the hallway to Nathan, who lay sprawled on the sofa, his complexion looking even more pallid, more sickly than just moments ago. We had no time for whatever ridiculous game Kostas was trying to play.

“Get out,” I growled at the line of omegas now standing against the walls, their presence suffocating.

“We’re here to assist you in getting dressed, Your Highness,” the woman at the front said, her head bowing only slightly, an indication of her authority.

Even my fierce words seemed to fall on deaf ears. They were meaningless to the servants, just as they were to everyone else in this pack. My wolf paced restlessly within me, still rattled by Hunter’s departure, but now her focus sharpened, honing in on the women before me with an intensity that made my skin prickle.

“I said get out,” I hissed, stepping closer, my body radiating defiance.

“Your ceremony will commence in three hours,” the woman replied, her tone firm and unyielding. “We have much to accomplish before you can be deemed presentable. Please cooperate.”

Cooperate. Follow orders. Be obedient.

My fists clenched tightly at my sides, my nails digging into my palms. Anger surged through my veins, a wild, roaring tide, but alongside it was a creeping helplessness. I was trapped in this nightmare, being pushed around by those who were supposedly here to assist me. It felt all too familiar—just like before, when those who had accompanied me on outings would laugh and gossip behind my back. They would polish me up only to parade me around like some trophy.

I cast another glance at Nathan. His heartbeat had slowed even further, and it was painfully clear that no one else in this castle cared. Apart from him and Malcolm, I couldn’t trust anyone else—not even Hunter.

No. That wasn’t entirely true. I could trust myself.

My anger boiled over, and my wolf surged to the forefront, consuming every ounce of logic I had left. Kostas’s presence at the door was irrelevant. I was already mated, damn it! I would not be a pawn in this farce while lives hung in the balance.

I snatched the box from the woman’s hands and stormed back toward the door. When I hurled it out, the box exploded open, scattering an array of body oils and creams across the floor. I grabbed another box, tossing the jewelry atop the mess, a chaotic display of defiance.

“Your Highness!” the leader exclaimed, her brow furrowing as she rushed toward me. “We don’t have time for this. Please stop throwing tantrums and just behave!”

I froze, a tidal wave of rage crashing over me, surpassing anything I had felt before. Slowly, I turned my head to the woman who had dared to utter those words.

“Behave?” I asked, my voice deceptively calm, a stark contrast to the storm brewing within me. “Tantrums? You want me to cooperate?”

I pivoted fully to face her, locking eyes with her defiantly. She didn’t flinch, her irritation flaring as if she truly believed she was dealing with a petulant child. I took a step closer, closing the space between us, and she didn’t back down—not an inch.

I had never liked the fact that my father had chosen only omegas to serve him. I had never considered myself superior, nor had I ever abused my status. But the way she stood there, so unbothered by my feelings, so dismissive of my autonomy, snapped something deep within me.

“Am I the princess here, or are you?” I growled, my voice low and dangerous. “Should I start calling you Your Highness?”

“Stop being ridiculous, Princess Katerina. This was an order from the King.”

And then, with an eye roll, she dismissed me.
