Was there a way to control how often I took his knot?

I huffed and rolled off Hunter’s chest, feeling the dull ache between my thighs and the slick heat as he slid out of me. At this rate, I’d be pregnant by the end of the week.
“Regrets?”
Hunter was awake, watching me. The bond was steady and familiar, but there was something sharp underneath it now. Un ease. Insecurity? I could understand that.
Our bond was chosen. It would be easy for others to manipulate. To control. ‘Others’ being specifically my father and the ruthless Lycan King.
“No regrets,” I said honestly.
Whatever took over me when I wanted him like that was still unfamiliar, but the memory burned in my chest.
“You saw me kill that man,” he said quietly. “You’re not thinking of running?”
Where would I go that he couldn’t follow? Besides, even now, a huge part of me still believed the man deserved it.

beside me. Rage spiked in the air. I sensed his beast just beneath his skin,
“I should have killed him slowly,” he growled.
I rolled into hin
and wrapped an arm around him. The fury dulled instantly, his heartbeat syncing with mine again. The simplicity of it stunned me for a second-how one bite had fused us so completely. As if we were truly meant to be.
If I hadn’t run away, my path would have led to me mating my brother. My stomach twisted at the thought of being this close, this intimate with Kostas. I couldn’t stop the wave of revulsion that rolled through me.
Hunter tightened his hold on me, grounding me instantly.
“He spoke like he didn’t know you were here,” I said, recalling the moments before the man died.
“The wards mask our presence, like the one at Rivers’ cabin,” Hunter replied. “Which means my uncle isn’t watching as closely as I thought.”
Hunter frowned, his eyes thoughtful as he looked up at the ceiling.
“You don’t get along?”
Hunter snorted and pulled me even closer, tangling our feet beneath the sheets. I had no idea how he’d got us upstairs and stripped us naked after what happened on the landing.
“I’ll tell you about him another time. I have to take Rivers out to extend the wards. At least then it will be safe for you to go outside.”
I nodded, already longing for the forest. I’d never felt any sort of affinity for it before, but maybe it was because I’d shifted now. I’d been itching to be out in the sun. To run throu
the forest like the first night Hunter brought me back.
The
presence of the people outside the gates had made me too anxious to ask. They were peppered all around us, and I

wasn’t sure how many of those were Hunter’s warriors and how many were enemies.

And how many of those would try to avenge the man who’d just died outside the main doors? A little guilt surfaced because I was acting just like my father. Instead of worrying about what Hunter’s pack lost, speaking to the family, and arranging the burial, I’d made Hunter fuck me in full view of everyone.
“Will you get into trouble?” I asked quietly. “That man…”
“Never,” he said. “He wasn’t even part of my pack. I don’t know where my uncle’s getting his people from.”
It seemed his family was just as complicated as mine.
He didn’t move for a while. He held me tighter, his nose in the crook of my neck. When he kissed the raised ridges of his mark, a shiver rolled through me. My hand inched to his neck, and my fingers trailed the mark I’d left on him.
That day, after my heat, was when everything changed. I could almost pinpoint when the bond became more, as if it was suddenly alive. Hunter’s body trembled like mine. I hadn’t acknowledged that bite before now. I hadn’t touched it like he constantly touched mine. But now that bone-deep pleasure slid through both of us, creating an intimacy that wasn’t sexual in nature.
“We’ll
go for
a run tonight,” he said, his voice low and broken. “I’ll take care of you properly.”
When he rolled away from me, my body protested.
“Rest, and then eat something,” he said. “Keep your strength up.”
I was already asleep again before he walked into the bathroom. When I opened my eyes, it was late afternoon, and my stomach was growling.
But there was something rippling over my skin. Not something dark and icy like before; this was warm and gentle. It was as if the magic protecting the house was stronger.
I jolted upright, a smile playing on my face. If the magic was stronger, then it meant Nathan was healthier. He was the only werewolf here, and my only ally. And he was possibly the only one who could help Hunter and me if things went sour with the Lycan King.
I rushed to shower and put on fresh clothes. By the time I left the bedroom, a row of maids was walking down the hallway with trays laden with food. When they walked past me this time, they bowed their heads and avoided my eyes.
Only then did I remember my act of public indecency.
“Will you eat with Mr Rivers, Miss Munroe?” one of them asked
Miss Munroe. Had they even known that name before today?
“Yes,” I answered quickly.
