**Chapter 55**

**HUNTER**

With one eye glued to the road ahead and the other fixated on the burner phone that seemed to radiate heat from the center console, I felt a tightness coiling in my chest. My body was a taut string, vibrating with impatience and frustration. It wasn’t merely the agonizing stretch of time since I’d last seen Kitty that gnawed at me.

No, it was that damn sketch.

I cast another glance at the phone, my beast within me roaring, restless and eager to break free, to hunt down the source of this torment, to obliterate it once and for all. But I couldn’t act just yet. I needed to ensure that every detail was meticulously arranged before I made my move.

What the hell was happening? Was any of this even real?

“Your Majes-”

“Shut your mouth. I’m still thinking,” I snapped, cutting him off.

Kostas had been dragged along because he was the only member of his pack I could stand to be around. Plus, he had a rental car that wasn’t tied to my name, which was crucial. I had my own phone switched off, effectively dropping off the grid for several days.

A quick glance in the rearview mirror revealed nothing. No one was tailing us—at least not yet. We were nearing Stockport, and I knew that once we crossed into the city, eyes would be watching us closely.

“Where do you want me to drop you off?” I growled, my voice low and edged.

“But it’s my—”

The look I shot him silenced him instantly. I couldn’t care less if it was his precious rental. The sun was sinking low in the sky, casting long shadows, and I had to know that Kitty was safe before I did anything else. Before I could even think about my next steps.

My gaze flicked back to the phone, and I tightened my grip on the steering wheel. That sketch in the email felt like a ticking time bomb, each second bringing us closer to an inevitable explosion.

“You can drop me anywhere,” Kostas finally relented, his voice subdued.

I swerved the car sharply off the road, ignoring the blaring horn of a vehicle that shot past us. We were just within the city limits, and the pressure was mounting. I had already caused Kitty enough pain; the image of her sobbing in that house haunted me, making it impossible to focus.

And my beast? He was a wreck. He had retreated deep within, but his pain echoed through me, filling my mind and body with a sense of sickness. Even now, I could feel my muscles trembling, straining to keep him at bay.

I had given her enough time. It was high time I showed her what I meant when I said she was mine.

Kostas glanced at me, then out the window, and I noticed the way his hand twitched, as if he wanted to ball it into a fist and strike me. There had been a time when he had no qualms about expressing his feelings toward me. But that man had vanished, just like his arrogant parents. He grabbed his belongings and opened the door without uttering another word.
