“We have lawyers who can handle document deliveries. And you were just at the construction site yesterday.” A slight pause,
“I don’t think there’ll be much progress overnight, Drie.”
Zandrie gave a small shrug, turning his attention to the folder as if it suddenly required his full concentration.
“Well, I want to personally oversee things,” he said lightly.
“The farmers are counting on us. We can’t afford to slack off.”
Cassie took a slow step forward, her eyes narrowing ever so slightly.
“Or…” she began, her voice soft but pointed, “…is there something in Sta. Cristina that keeps pulling you back?” Cassie’s gaze sharp and probing, while he remained fixated on the folder as if it could shield him from her scrutiny.
Zandrie didn’t look up. Cassie’s lips curved faintly.
“No,” she corrected, her gaze sharpening. “Not something…”
“A someone.”
That made him pause-just for a fraction of a second.
“What are you talking about, Cassidy?” he chuckled, though it came out a little too quick, a little too forced. His fingers began tapping lightly against the folder.
Cassie didn’t miss it.
“Well, Sta. Cristina does have its charms,” she mused, folding her arms.
“I wouldn’t blame you if someone there made you keep coming back…” Her eyes flicked over him, deliberate.
“Or even made you give up your nightly bar visits and random/hookups.”
Zandrie stiffened.
“You haven’t had any of your usual… activities in some random hotel room for months now,” she added casually.
A sharp glare snapped toward her-but it wasn’t from Zandrie.
It was Ashton.

“How do you know about Zandrie’s personal life?” Ashton asked, his tone edged with displeasure, his eyes narrowing at her.
Cassie blinked, momentarily caught off guard. Zandre seized the moment.
“Yeah, go on-call her out, Ashton,” he said dryly, shooting Cassie a look.
“She’s gotten way too nosy lately.” He crossed his arms, glaring at her.
“Why are you so interested in what I do, anyway? Don’t tell me you’ve fallen for me.’
“Excuse me?” Cassie shot back instantly, incredulity flashing across her face.
Then, without missing a beat, she smirked.
“Please,” she said flatly. “I know because someone from Sta. Cristina told me.

She leaned it slightly, her gaze locking onto his.
“So?” she sneered, a challenge laced in every word.
“Care to explain that, Drie?”
“You’re getting too meddlesome, Cassidy Greene,” Zandrie shot back, glaring at her before shifting his gaze to Ashton.
“Pierce, keep your woman occupied so she stops prying on my every move.”
Ashton merely shook his head, unfazed, as if this exchange was nothing new.
Cassie let out a scoff, folding her arms.
“Well, I should be prying,” she snapped without hesitation.
“You’re messing with my cousin.”
Zandrie opened his mouth to respond, but Cassie cut him off, her voice dropping into something colder-sharper.
“Try your usual charms on Carmel,” she warned, her eyes locking onto his, “and I swear, I’ll personally make sure you regret it in ways you won’t recover from. I will cut your dick and make it into fertilizer”
“I’m not playing this time!” Zandrie fired back, his tone rising with uncharacteristic urgency. There was no teasing now-only insistence.
But Cassie didn’t budge.
“Don’t even think about it, Mr. Playboy,” she said flatly, her glare unwavering.
Zandrie exhaled, dragging a hand through his hair before finally meeting her gaze head-on. This time, there was no deflection, no smirk-just something steady.
