I had run out of ideas, but I wasn’t ready to give up. Am might have fooled everyone into thinking she was untouchable, but I knew there had to be a way to bring her down.
For days, I’d been restless by pacing the house, scrolling through updates from the pack council, listening to every rumor that might lead back to Amy. It felt like the world was moving forward while I was stuck watching her rise. That wasn’t going to last. Not if I could help it.
I had a maid inside the Carters‘ estate. She wasn’t one of their trusted staff. She was just a quiet, forgettable girl who knew how to keep her head down I paid her well enough to keep her loyalty. When she called me this morning, her voice trembled through the phone.
“There’s not much I can say over the line, ma’am,” she whispered. “But they say… she’s the child of the Moon.”
“The what?” I asked, confused.
“The child of the Moon,” she repeated. “That’s what I heard Mrs. Carter say to one of the elders. Something about her bloodline. Something old.”
I frowned. “Everyone’s a child of the Moon. We’re wolves, aren’t we?”
“That’s what I thought,” she said. “But they’re treating her differently. Like she’s something sacred.”
Her words kept replaying in head after the call ended. The child of the Moon. It sounded ridiculous. Just another title for people like Amy to feel special about. Still, it itched in the back of my mind. I needed to know what it meant.

Later that afternoon, I drove to the outskirts of town. There was someone I hadn’t seen in years a witch who used to deal with the kind of things no one dared to talk about openly. Her name was Mara. She was the kind of woman who lived alone in a place that smelled like something really old, the kind of place people avoided unless they were desperate.
When she opened the door, she looked me over like shed been expecting me. “You finally came,” she said, her voice dry.
“I need something,” I said. “Something powerful.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Power always comes with a price.”
“I can pay.”
Mara smiled faintly. “Not the kind of price I’m talking about. Come in.”
I followed her inside. The room was dimly lit, filled with herbs hanging from the ceiling and jars stacked along the walls. She gestured for me to sit.
“What do you want?” she asked.
“There’s a woman,” I said carefully. “She has something that should’ve been mine. She’s tied to power she doesn’t deserve. I want to take it from her.”
Mara studied me silently for a moment. “And this woman… her name?”

“Amy.”
The witch’s expression changed slightly. “The Moonstone child,” she murmured.
I froze. “You know about her?”

“Everyone in my circle does. You should tread carefully That kind of blood isn’t meant to be touched.”
“I don’t care,” I said. “Tell me what I have to do.”
Mara leaned forward, resting her hands on the table. “If her bloodline is what you say, then her strength comes from a divine bond tied to both light and loyalty. To take it, you’ll need two things: a strand of her hair and something precious tied to the man bound to her. The ritual can’t work without both.”
“Something tied to Daniel,” I muttered. “That’s easy enough.”
“You should think twice before doing this,” she said. “The Moon’s favor doesn’t move easily from one vessel to another. If it rejects you-”
“I didn’t come for warnings,” I interrupted. “I came for results.”
Mara didn’t argue. She stood up and pulled out a small black mirror, setting it on the table. Its surface rippled like water even though it was solid glass.
“This is the blood mirror,” she said. “When the crimson moon rises, mix her essence with yours. Then add the link to the one she’s bound to. If you succeed, her energy will weaken, and yours will grow stronger. But if you fail…”
She didn’t finish the sentence. She didn’t need to. I nodded. “I’ll get what you need.”
I left her house just as the sun dipped below the horizon My heart pounded with a mix of fear and excitement. I didn’t fully understand what I was getting into, but I knew that I couldn’t keep living in Amy’s shadow. If this ritual worked, she’d finally feel what it was like to lose..
It didn’t take long to get what I needed. The maid was still inside the Carters‘ estate, and a few extra bills made her cooperative. She sent me a small envelope later that night. Inside was a single strand of hair, wrapped in tissue. She said it was Amy’s.
As for Daniel, that was easier. I still had one of his cufflinks I took when we were kids.
When the night of the crimson moon came, I returned to Mara’s place. The moon hung low, red against the clouds. Inside, the room smelled of metal and smoke. The mirror sat on the table, a bowl of dark liquid beside it.
“Are you ready?” Mara
I nodded. “Let’s . asked.
Start.”
She took the strand of hair and dropped it into the liquid, followed by the cufflink. The mirror pulsed faintly, a dull glow spreading across its surface.
