Chapter 84 She Doesn’t Smile

After promising Amy that I would hold a press conference for her and clear the rumor going on, one thing would not leave my mind. I wasn’t sure I had the courage to face the media which made my skin crawl sometimes but I was tired of everyone in the house treating me like I am made out of glass.
I woke up pretty early and got prepared for it. I tried to look my best, most especially beside a woman as pretty and elegant as Amy. When I was ready, I went down stairs and it was impressive to see that she was ready too. We decided to go together and show a united front. It wasn’t anyone’s business if we’re in love or
not.
The press room was full by the time we arrived. The usual bright lights, flashing cameras, microphones pointed toward the small stage set up in the center. I could already hear the quiet buzz of reporters whispering among themselves all ready to tear apart every word that came out of my mouth.
Amy was standing beside me, looking really calm and composed. She looked unbothered by all the noise around us. I envied that. Her face gave nothing away not anger, not pride, not even relief.

When my mother gave a small nod from her seat in the front row, I stepped forward.
“Good afternoon,” I began. My voice sounded steadier than I expected. “There have been many rumors and false stories circulating about my personal life, especially about my wife, Amy Carter.”
The word ‘wife‘ felt strange on my tongue –but not in a bad way.
I glanced at her. She didn’t look at me. Her eyes were fixed somewhere beyond the cameras.
“I want to make one thing very clear,” I continued. “Amy is my legal wife, I love that she is my wife and she deserves every bit of respect that title demands. Anyone spreading lies, slander, or harassment online will face legal action. This ends today.”
The room went silent. The clicking of cameras stopped for a moment, and I could almost feel every reporter holding their breath.
I went on. “During the years I was in a coma, Amy stood by me. She made decisions for the family and the company, handled chaos none of you ever saw. I owe my life and recovery to her care. She was my lifeline when I couldn’t even open my eyes.”
That line wasn’t scripted, it came out before I could stop it. But I meant it. I heard a few soft murmurs ripple through the crowd.
Amy finally turned to look at me after I said that. Just a quick glance, but it felt like she was trying to decide whether I was being sincere or just saving face.
When the questions started coming in, I answered only what mattered.
>“Are you two living together?”
“Would I not live with my wife? Or where is my Luna supposed to live?”
>“Was the marriage arranged?”

“It was approved by both families. Nothing else matters now.”
“Is it true you plan to renew your vows?”

Amy was quict through it all. Her posture never slipped. She smiled once, faintly, when someone asked about her work. It was enough to send the internet into a frenzy.
By the end of the event, the music in the air had changed.
Headlines online changed.
“Alpha Daniel Carter defends his wife- loyalty redefined.”
Others said: “From mystery to admiration: Amy Carter wins hearts with grace.”
People who called her a gold digger yesterday were now praising her strength. Screens across the lobby replayed the clips of me speaking firmly, Amy standing tall beside me. Together, we looked like a united front.
If only they knew the truth.
I didn’t do it out of love. I did it because the disrespect had gone too far. Because no matter how little I remembered, something about watching her being insulted made me angry in a way I couldn’t ignore.
When the press conference ended and I told her I’d join her at the office, she didn’t argue.
It was my first time there since waking up. My mother insisted on showing me around herself. The place hadn’t changed much, but I could tell how much Amy had done to keep it standing.
My mother smiled as she opened the door to my old office. “Feels familiar?” she asked.
“Almost,” I said.
She sighed softly. “You’ve come a long way, Daniel. I pray to the Moon Goddess that you get your memory back. The pack still needs its Alpha.”
“I hope so too,” I said quietly.
