Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 155

Chapter 155 Must Play a Little Dirty

Lucky Draw

Megan had been destroyed by him-Harvey had ensured that. And when Hugh stepped up to claim Hudson as his own to protect them both, it had driven a wedge through the heart of his marriage with Bethan.

He’d been so sure that after twenty years together, Bethan’s feelings for him would be enough to get them through this crisis.

But everything was spinning entirely out of control.

To keep their marriage from falling apart, he must play a little dirty.

He believed marriages were something you had to work at, something you built piece by piece.

Ryan and Fiona had done it—a straight-up business arrangement with zero romance, and they’d made it work for decades.

If Pyan could pull it off, so could he.

Even if Bethan ended up hating him for it, that would only be temporary.

“Mr. Cavill, dinner’s ready.” Jemma’s voice cut through his thoughts. “If there’s nothing else you need, I’ll head back to Cavill Manor now.”

Hugh crushed his cigarette and headed inside to the bedroom.

He walked over to the bed and turned Bethan toward him. “Come on, get up and eat something before you go back to sleep.”

Bethan pushed his hands away, clearly not having it.

Hugh’s eyes locked on Bethan’s face, watching for any reaction. “Do I need to remind you what’s in our contract,

Bethan?”

She forced herself to sit up, every movement careful and deliberate. Hugh bent down to help her out of bed. “Can you walk?”

Before she could answer, he’d already swept her into his

arms.

He carried her through the evening routine like clockwork-dinner, then the bathroom to wash up, and finally back to bed.

Bethan went along with it all, compliant as a doll with no

will.

She knew exactly why Hugh was playing the devoted husband. He needed her recovered and presentable for tomorrow night’s Huvale Group annual gala.

The next evening, Bethan sat in a conservatively elegant gown at her vanity.

Hugh appeared behind her with a diamond necklace, his fingers brushing her neck as he fastened the clasp.

In the mirror, her reflection was flawless, and Hugh’s expression shifted, something unreadable flickering in his deep eyes.

It was the first time he’d seen her dressed like this. The effect was striking.

Bethan sat perfectly still at her vanity, letting Hugh fasten the expensive necklace around her throat.

She knew the drill by now-everything he gave her had an attached price tag. She’d have to pay it back somehow.

Hugh was a businessman through and through. He never made a deal that didn’t benefit him.

The only person who got his unconditional generosity was Megan.

“Thank you,” she said quietly.

When Bethan finished getting ready, Hugh held out his tie. She took it without a word, her face giving nothing

away.

They moved around each other like polite strangers. Everything felt rehearsed, empty. Neither of them bothered to pretend this meant anything.

Bethan’s fingers worked automatically, knotting his tie with practiced ease. She turned to leave, but Hugh caught her around the waist, pulling her back against him.

His eyes locked on hers. “Forgetting something?”

They stared at each other for a moment. Then Bethan rose on her toes and quickly kissed his lips.

Hugh could feel how mechanical it was, how little she meant it. His arms tightened around her, and he kissed her back-harder, demanding more.

Trapped in his embrace, Bethan’s mind flashed to that terrifying night when he’d completely lost control. When he’d taken what he wanted without caring what it did to

her.

Her whole body started trembling. “Don’t touch me!” she gasped, struggling against his hold.

They froze, staring at each other. Bethan’s face had gone white, her breathing shallow and uneven.

Hugh saw the panic in her eyes, the genuine fear. Something twisted sharp and cold in his chest.

He let her go immediately, stepping back like she’d burned him.
