Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 165

Chapter 165 Bethan’s in Trouble

As she left, she added, “Hugh, I’m starting to see your wife’s a genuinely good person. Women aren’t that hard to win over. Don’t go back all stone-faced-soften up, talk to her nicely. She’s probably home by now. Go check on her.”

Hugh’s gaze on Megan held a trace of complexity.

“Tonight, I said what I did to keep my grandfather from hurting you and Hudson,” he said. “Don’t read into it.”

Megan’s hands tightened at her sides, but she forced a smile. “Hugh, you don’t need to keep reminding me. No matter what anyone thinks, we’re in the clear. My

conscience is clean.”

Hugh nodded. “Get some rest.”

As Megan watched his car pull into the fast lane, her smile twisted into something darker.

Things had spiraled tonight, and Hugh’s stance was crystal clear. He’d protect her, but he’d never marry her. 1/7

He was clinging to his marriage, refusing to divorce even when Bethan was ready to step aside and let them be.

And the Cavill family? They’d rather see Hugh remarry anyone but her.

What did I do wrong?

Why did everyone look down on me?

What am I supposed to do now?

Late at night, Hugh returned to Blue Bay Community.

He figured Bethan would be home by now.

She was his wife, after all. His grandfather wouldn’t go

too hard on her.

The image of Bethan’s pale face and faint smile flashed in his mind, leaving him restless.

As he approached the elevator, Mason stepped out.

Their eyes met, and Hugh blocked his path.

Mason shoved him hard. “Bethan’s in trouble. Get out of

my way!”

Late at night, Hugh and Mason rushed back to Cavill

Manor.

Gwen ran up, tears streaming down her face. “Mason, you’re finally here! Grandpa’s got Bethan kneeling, and he won’t let her up!”

Before Gwen could finish, Hugh was already charging into the living room.

Harvey caught sight of Hugh’s return and shot Logan a look. Logan ushered the bodyguards out, clearing the

room.

Hugh crouched beside Bethan, gently trying to help her

Mason shoved him aside. “I’m taking her to the hospital.”

Both of them reached for Bethan at the same time.

Bethan, her back lashed by a whip and forced to kneel for hours, was pale and trembling.

She lifted her eyelids to look at Hugh, her eyes clouded and gray.

In a frail voice, she said, “I’m fine. Go take care of her.”

Their gazes locked, and Hugh’s chest tightened, his outstretched hand freezing in midair.

Bethan turned to Mason, her lips quivering, unable to form words as her eyes reddened.

Mason carefully lifted her into his arms. “Bethan, listen to me-your ‘Huggie’ died the night Megan came back!”

He shot Hugh a scathing glare. “The Hugh standing here is Megan’s husband, her kids’ father. He’s got nothing to do with you anymore!”

Bethan closed her eyes, leaning limply against Mason’s shoulder, giving a faint nod.

Her nod hit Hugh like a sledgehammer, pounding his Heart with crushing weight.

Mason carried Bethan to the hospital.

Hugh didn’t leave right away.

He turned to face Harvey, his voice raw with outrage. “Grandpa, Bethan’s my wife. How could you do this to her?”

Harvey’s tone was unyielding. “She married you, so she’s a Cavill. As your wife, letting some mistress stir up trouble is her failure. As long as you’re married to her, she answers for it!”

With that, Harvey leaned on Logan and retreated to his

room.

Ryan, dripping with disdain for Bethan, added, “She’s supposed to be the future matriarch of this family, and she can’t even handle a mistress? Useless!”

After Ryan left, Fiona stepped up to Hugh.

“Hugh, you’ve chosen to tie yourself to Megan, to be by her side,” she said. “You’ve already given up on your wife. For the sake of the twenty years you and Bethy grew up 5/7
