Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 259

Chapter 259 Why Didn’t You Say Sooner?

After lunch with Calvin and Henry, Bethan returned to the hospital. She spotted a black Bentley parked by the curb.

Hugh stepped out, and Calvin, holding Henry, said, “I’ll take him inside. You two should talk.”

As Calvin left with Henry, Bethan stopped walking.

Hugh approached, handing her a thermos. “Chicken soup. If you’re hungry this afternoon, have some.”

Bethan took it.

She’d just had a miscarriage; she needed to take care of herself.

Seeing her accept it, Hugh started, “I met with Megan earlier because…”

“I don’t want to hear it!” Bethan cut him off.

Their eyes met, his expression tangled with unreadable

emotions.

When he spoke again, his voice was restrained. “You seem

to really like Mr. Byron’s son. If you want, I can plan a dinner party, and we’ll pick out a nice gift for him.”

Bethan studied him for a long moment.

“Hugh, Henry needs a mom, not a dad,” she said. “I’m his godmother. That’s enough. You don’t need to step in.”

Her words darkened Hugh’s face.

“We’re married, Bethan,” he said. “I’m still here. You’re taking on a godson without me-does that make sense?”

Bethan shot back, “When you secretly claimed Hudson as your son, where was our marriage then?”

She pressed, “Was I already dead to you back then?”

Hugh was speechless, struck dumb by her words.

After a long pause, he said, “I know I messed up before. You’re still recovering. If you’re angry, take it our on me51

Before he could finish, Bethan slapped him and walked

away.

Hugh stood frozen, hand on his cheek.

A short distance away, Jacob peeked at the scene.

Terrified, he ducked back quickly and turned his head, pretending he’d seen nothing.

That afternoon, Bethan saw a patient, Edith.

Edith always sang Bethan’s praises, but Elsie, who accompanied her, was openly disdainful.

Bethan ignored it, personally escorting Edith to her car.

Elsie shut the car door and taunted, “Dr. Olsen, the unloved one’s just baggage. Megan’s got Mr. Cavill’s kid. You’re holding onto the Mrs. Cavill title for nothing. Why not divorce early and get a big settlement?”

Bethan frowned at the fool before her. “Why don’t you divorce him for me?”

Elsie sneered, her eyes dripping with contempt. “Dr. Olsen, when one spouse wants out, no marriage rasts. 7:51

know clinging to Mr. Cavill is your ticket out of ruin, but Megan’s given him a son. You’ll never beat her. Stop dreaming.”

Bethan tapped the window of the luxury car’s back seat.

“Madam Davis,” she said to Edith, “your granddaughter’s something else, threatening me to divorce my husband. Is she planning to take my place as Mrs. Cavill?”

With that, Bethan turned and left.

“Grandma, don’t listen to that wretch Bethan!” Elsie

cried.

As she climbed into the car, Edith slapped her.

“I’ve spared you for your father’s sake,” Edith snapped. “Cause trouble again, and you’re out of my house-back to your mother!”

Elsie fumed as the car pulled away.

Bethan returned to her office, packing up to head to Keating Mansion.

Bethan smiled. “Edith was my grandmother’s close friend. Her sleep’s been off, so I’m prescribing something to help.”

Tristen placed a file on her desk. “This patient’s an Australian dignitary, high-profile. He’s arriving in New York next week. You’ll handle him. Review the case.”

Bethan gave him a thumbs-up. “Tristen, your connections are incredible.”

With Tristen, she was reaping fame and fortune.

And through him, she’d met all kinds of powerful figures and made many friends.

Tristen shrugged modestly. “Compared to the Kroos and Cavill families’ networks, mine’s nothing.”

After he left, Bethan tucked the file into her bag and headed to Keating Mansion.

That evening, near closing time, urgent knocks echoed through Hugh’s office.

Jacob burst in. “Mr. Cavill, Sir Cavill has been
