Chapter 394 What’s All This About
Watching the helicopter ascend into the night sky, Mason finally heaved a sigh of relief. “Bro, I can only do this much for you,” he muttered to himself.
He’d managed to cajole Barry into luring Bethan to come to the airport, and then tricked her onto the helicopter.
Knowing Bethan’s feisty personality, whether or not Hugh’s proposal worked, Mason was bound to get an earful from her, maybe even a couple of smacks.
Around ten at night, the helicopter circled before landing on the private island.
Jacob, leading a group of bodyguards, hurried over to greet them.
He stood respectfully by the landed helicopter, hands clasped in front of him.
The moment he saw Hugh and Bethan stepping out, Jacob was in disbelief.
He rubbed his eyes vigorously, thinking he was seeing things.
In the morning, Hugh had looked sharp in his suit, look X Close qxtremely hand
But now, his hair was a mess, his suit jacket gone, his tie askew, and the two middle buttons of his shirt undone.
He looked like he’d been in a three-hour scuffle with someone.
Jacob couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his mouth and quickly lowered his head.
Spotting Jacob in the distance, Bethan stopped.
As far as she knew, Jacob had been working as Hugh’s assistant for over a year.
He was a reliable guy, but his only flaw was being overly obedient to Hugh.
Taking in the familiar scenery, she realized this was Hugh’s private island, where they’d had their honeymoon in her past life and where Hugh had once sworn not to bother her anymore.
Even though it was past ten at night, the entire island was covered in roses.
She twirled around, feeling like she was floating in a sea of them.
In the distance, there were white, purple, and champagne-col
Along with colorful fairy lights, the roses formed a huge heart on the island’s open area.
Bethan could pretty much guess what Hugh was about to do.
She calmly shifted her gaze to Hugh, whose clothes were a mess from her earlier scratches.
Pretending to be oblivious, she asked, “What’s all this about?”
Hugh reached out tentatively to Bethan, only to have his hand smacked away.
He locked eyes with her, then dropped to one knee, holding a diamond ring.
In a voice full of sincerity, he began, “Bethy, we’ve known each other since we were kids. We’ve been through thick and thin together.”
Bethan couldn’t help but agree.
Meeting the wrong person really was the fastest way to grow
Hugh continued, “In my heart, you’re my home and my future. I’ll make you feel safe, and I’ll always be by your side, protecting you from everything.”
By the end of his speech, Hugh’s eyes were glistening with unshed tears.
He declared, “All the creatures on this island and in the
surrounding sea are my witnesses. I, Hugh Cavill, swear to cherish you, protect you, and love you with all my heart.”
Bethan’s fingers tightened on the edge of her skirt.
It seemed her sudden decision to call off the engagement had really caught Hugh off guard, forcing him to come up with this whole romantic act.
He pleaded, “Bethy, will you marry me?”
The island was deathly quiet at night.
In the romantic setting filled with roses, Bethan stood still, showing no reaction.
Hugh’s eyes were red-rimmed, and his hand holding the ring trembled slightly.
They both looked a bit messy, just like the relationship they’d had.
Bethan stared down at the diamond ring.
It was a large piortune.
For the sake of the Cavill family, his pride, and the Megan he was waiting for, he really went all out.
Bethan took a half-step forward.
Hugh’s hopeful eyes were full of affection as he repeated, “Bethy, marry me!”
To him, she was a gift from above, his long-awaited salvation, and the one he’d spend his life with.
In the hushed air, their gazes met as Bethan’s eyes drooped.
