fitted gown.
I loved my style just as much. We bid the kids goodbye, as Mister Flynn already had books in front of them, from colours books to science books scattered on their table in the study. Mister Flynn ran a strict program when it came to their study time, and I was only allowed to quietly give them kisses and their foreheads and Aaraon whispered complimenting how beautiful I looked.
We took the black SUV, while Lucas announced stepping into old Porsche, “I will meet you guys there.”
I shook my head and soon we arrived at the investor’s company. The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime, and I stepped out, my heels clicking against the polished marble floor. The office tower was sleek, all steel and glass, with the kind of cold perfection that screamed power. I had walked into a hundred buildings like this in the last seven years, but today felt different.
Maybe it was because I was home. Maybe because I had something to prove. Just as I always did when growing up and fearing just as I was younger, nothing would still amount to anything
“You’re fine,” Lucas murmured, just loud enough for me to hear. “Breathe. You’ve done this like about twice and it went well, so will it today as well.”
I smiled faintly, but my stomach fluttered anyway.
The receptionist directed us toward a glass-walled conference room. As I entered, the city skyline stretched out beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows, sharp and glittering. The table was long, surrounded by leather chairs. Pitch books and crystal water glasses were arranged with obsessive precision.
I set tje focuments down at the head of the table, choosing that seat deliberately. No matter who walked in, they
needed to know I wasn’t there to be underestimated.
Maya busied herself arranging samples and sketches, while Lucas leaned casually against the glass, scrolling on his phone, though I knew his eyes missed nothing.
I smoothed my trousers, exhaling slowly.
The door opened and a young lady entered and announced, “Good morning. Mr Martinez and the rest of the members of the board will be with you shortly. Here is a bottle of water.”
She gave the three of us a bottle of water and allowed the other ladies serve donuts, and more but I smiled politely declining the offer.
Another ten minutes had gone by, members of the board trooped in and I politely bowed at them.
And finally? Footsteps. Confident. Unhurried.
And then-
Him.
Elijah Martinez.
He stepped into the room, his presence as commanding as I remembered, though time had etched new lines into his face, sharpened his features. He wore a suit that looked like it had been made for him alone, his tie perfectly knotted, his hair brushed back with the same effortless arrogance.

For a moment, the world seemed to tilt. The noise of the city outside dimmed.
Our eyes locked.
Seven years collapsed in an instant. The arguments, the silence, the pain-it all came rushing back, colliding with the woman I was now.
It seemed like a dream…it seemed like no one else in the room existed anymore and he seemed terrified in disbelief, and I had the exact same expression…disbelief.
He was the owner of the billionaire dollar company that was looking toward to investing in my company?
