Breed Me Cursed Alpha (Lyra and Ronan) novel Chapter 8

HANNAH’S POV:

THE NIGHT OF THE BALL:

I stood in front of the mirror in my walk-in closet, holding my breath as the final clasp of my dress was secured. The gown shimmered and I was impressed at the detailed work of the new intern, Freda. She was so excited when I told her I loved the dress. It was deep emerald green, satin, floor-length with a high slit that teased just above the knee. One shoulder bare, the other joined with delicate silver embroidery that reminded me of falling leaves. It was stunning. Not loud, not overdone just quietly powerful. Like I had become.

The hairstylist and make up artist had just completed their work and scurried out the room, with complimenting my facial features and my soft brown long hair. I felt beautiful, and all while they worked, Amelia was reading a book on her iPad while Andrew was busy watching a show on my bed.

They had curled Amelia’s hair and since she was already dressed like a mini version of me except hers was a flare gown,

she was just so in love with herself as she stared at the mirror repeatedly. I had approved the make up artist adorning her with glitters around her eyelid and a pink lipgloss on her lips. She looked perfect for her

age.

Andrew, on the other hand, was in a new tuxedo with a bow tie looking very charming with his hair slicked back

like Lucas’.

As soon as I stepped back into their eyesight, and asked, “So what do you two think?” Kids were always brutally honest so I loved hearing them and their opinions.

Amelia gasped and rose up from the bed walking towards me in amazement. “Mummy! You look like a

princess.” Andrew also added seriously just staring at me with the same look Amelia had on her face, “No… a queen.’

I’d hugged them both tightly and kissed them on their foreheads. “Thank you my loves. You are the real prince and princess!”

I took a moment to stare at my reflection as this wasn’t just any random ball but a ball organized by the party we were supposed to enter into a partnership with. I barely knew anything about them and first impressions matter especially as a designer. This wasn’t a costume. This was me now. Sharp, calm, and elegant. And everyone was slowly realizing that and no one throws around a billion if they don’t see potential in the CEO.

“Come on, we have to get going now.” I told them after applying the perfume on myself and the kids.

Lucas was waiting downstairs in the living room, wearing a sleek black tux. His hair was slicked back, just slightly undone at the fronthis signature look. When I descended the stairs with the kids, he let out a low whistle.

“Alright,” he said, offering his arm with a smirk. “You’ve officially made me nervous.”

I laughed softly. “That’s the goal.”

“My little princess.” He held Amelia’s hand and she twirled her around making her smile.

“You look so pretty.” He complimented and she shyly muttered, “Thank you.”

He and Andrew first bumped and I couldn’t help but watch them amused.

“Are we ready?” He asked, taking my hands with him and we all answered simultaneously and we were led out of the house.

We arrived at the venue around eight. The ball was being hosted at the Rosemont Grand Hotel, one of the most luxurious event spaces in the city. Golden lights lit up the high glass dome ceiling, and chandeliers sparkled like stars scattered across the heavens. A string quartet played near the entrance as guests in tuxedos and gowns mingled over champagne.

Lucas and I with the kids entered gracefully, all four of us holding each other’s hands and it was so cute. All eyes seemed to turn in our direction. Some recognized me immediately, others stared, confused but curious. I felt the whispers gather like a hush rolling through the crowd.

“That’s her… is that…?”

“Wait, Lucas Benson’s partner… the real owner of Prestige?”

“She’s back?” “Are they married with kids?” “Whose kids are those?”

HANNAH’S POV:

No one never ever really knew me even as the daughter of a Jones and when I was married to Elijah, it was only once I had made an appearance. Or was I recognized as the writer that I was? It didn’t matter.

I kept my head up high. Let them talk and glanced at the kids who were whispering to each other as if they were conniving and laughing mischievously.

“Please don’t do anything.” I cautioned, bending a little and whispered. I wasn’t scared they were going to do anything crazy, they have been attending events like this since they were younger.

“Yes Mummy.” They said simultaneously and giggled when I stared at them with squinted eyes.

“Come on…” Lucas held my hand, and the kids held my hand and led us upstairs.

We were ushered toward a VIP section where the representative who Lucas had been in contact greeted us warmly.

“This is Monica Levi, the representative of the company. And this is my partner, the brains and creative between the brand, Hannah Jones.” Lucas introduced us and she looked at me with squinted eyes before she smiled brightly at me before shaking hands with me.

She was a pretty woman who looked like she was in late thirties, her hair was black long and she had this cirtrus scent. Her gown was one out of the last exclusive edition and it made my heart smile seeing her.

“It is such an honor to meet you. You all look so beautiful. And we are so happy to have you here.” She smiled at the kids, and giggled when both Amelia and Andrew stretched their hands from a hand shake.

“They are so adorable and well behaved. My kids would have running around as soon as they stepped in.” She complimented, making all three of us laugh.

We went ahead to take a seat and I handed the kids their iPads to keep them pre-occupied. Monica went ahead, fawning over the company’s latest collection and the buzz surrounding my return.

“Let me introduce you to some other executives.” She stated after about ten minutes. Lucas handled most of the pleasantries while I offered polite smiles and shook hands.

“Thank you so much.” I appreciated when the wife of one of the executives complimented my appearance.

Just as I smiled conversing with her. It was like something in the atmosphere shifted. Subtle. Like the sudden hush before a storm.

I turned my head slightly and that’s when I saw him,

Or at least, I thought it was him.

Across the room, past the glimmering crowd and champagne flutes, stood a tall man in a black suit, broad shoulders stiff, dark eyes scanning the room. His jawline so sharp and painfully familiar. And beside him, a woman with perfectly styled hair in a gold backless dress her posture stiff, smile fake. Janet?

I couldn’t be sure. My heart stalled. The air in my lungs caught like a snag in silk. Am I seeing things?
