Bride behind the mask novel (Marguerite) novel Chapter 700

On the second day at Poppy Petal Fragrances, Frederick didn't come to the office. Instead, he went to Thunderbolt Enterprises.

Marguerite was alone in her spacious office, contemplating whether to call Frederick to somehow get Daphne's number. With Teresa and Maurice's DNA samples sent abroad for testing and results still pending, her impatience was growing, and she was desperate to know the truth.

Just as she was about to reach for her phone, Violet burst through the elevator doors, arms loaded with several boxes wrapped in bright red paper, looking as if she was being chased by ghosts.

Marguerite waved her over, "Why the rush?"

Catching her breath, Violet exclaimed, "Oh, Marguerite, Ms. Lockwood had another episode! It was so severe this time, it scared us all half to death!"

"You went to see her again?" Marguerite asked, her brow furrowed.

"Not at all! I was just downstairs because HR announced a New Year’s bonus for everyone, and Linda came to chat. I was so engrossed in our conversation that I didn’t even see Ms. Lockwood coming. She started shouting out of nowhere. I was afraid she’d lash out at me, so I grabbed my stuff and ran up here before I could even finish collecting my bonus."

Violet recounted her tale with dramatic flair, quickly setting the large gift boxes on Marguerite’s desk.

"Marguerite, you take these for now. I’ll head back down after work to grab the rest."

Marguerite glanced at the gift boxes, spotting nuts and pastries. "As long as she didn’t see you, that’s fine. You might as well take these. They’d just go to waste on me."

Violet shrugged, "Just that—telling someone to stay away, to leave, or she’d 'strangle them’ or something."

Marguerite was puzzled. Stella had theorized that Yuna’s hallucinations were likely due to the shock of Penelope’s death affecting her mentally. But considering Yuna’s personality, it was odd she’d still be hung up on it more than a year later.

Violet, curiosity piqued, looked expectantly at Marguerite, "So, who is Laverne? Was she related to Ms. Lockwood? Someone else who passed away?"

Marguerite gently massaged her temples before nodding, "Yes, Laverne was my grandmother, and hers too."

Having only been at Poppy Petal Fragrances for a week, Violet had already picked up bits and pieces about Marguerite and Yuna’s family history from other employees. Without pressing further, she frowned in confusion, "That’s so strange. One was Ms. Lockwood’s mother, and the other her grandmother. Why would she be afraid of her own family?"
