Bride behind the mask novel (Marguerite) novel Chapter 767

Maggie was lost in a sea of sorrow, so deep that she couldn't hear anything around her.

Charlie, with ears like a hawk, picked up on the faintest sound, even though it was muffled by Hayes's sleeve covering the speaker of a kids' smartwatch.

"What's that noise?" he asked, turning his attention to Hayes.

Hayes slipped his hand behind his back, "I'll tell you when we get home. Stay with mom, I'll be right back."

With that, Hayes dashed off, leaving Charlie with a burning curiosity. He was always up for an adventure, eager to dive into whatever Hayes was up to.

But then he glanced over at Maggie, standing alone by the grave, and felt it wasn't right to leave her side at such a moment. So, he squashed his playful urge and stayed.

Meanwhile, Hayes moved away quickly, lifting his sleeve. The alarm's volume increased instantly.

Why would an alarm go off in a cemetery?

What was this mysterious online friend doing here?

The more Hayes thought about it, the more puzzled he became.

Was it all just a coincidence?

From the start, this mysterious friend had contacted him out of the blue, and when he tracked the IP address, it pointed to Stonebridge City—a place he once called home.

And now, this person seemed to be in the cemetery where his dad and sister were buried.

Hayes was almost certain this mysterious friend had to be Teresa!

He glanced at the kids' smartwatch, and the blinking red dot on the screen seemed to overlap with his location.

But as Hayes scanned the area, all he saw were oppressive tombstones with no sign of anyone else.

Yet, he didn't give up, checking behind each grave, unwilling to miss any potential hiding spots.

After a long search with nothing to show for it, he followed the alarm's sound to a shaded area, where, strangely, it stopped abruptly.

But without any concrete evidence, he couldn't just blurt it out to Mom.

After all, he couldn't bear to see her disappointed if it turned out to be a false alarm.

Charlie glanced back at Maggie, who had started to pack up, and then took Hayes by the hand to lead him away.

"What's gotten into you, Hayes? You've been acting so weird lately! You're going to have to explain everything once we get home!"

Their voices faded into the distance.

Behind them, in the shade, a pair of chubby hands clung to a tree trunk, and curious eyes peeked through the lush leaves, watching the departing trio from their hidden spot.

That was a close call!

The little girl let out a long sigh of relief, her hands still patting her chest to calm down.
