It happened too fast.
Gael moved with terrifying speed, leaving the crew paralyzed in shock.
By the time anyone realized what was happening, Gael had a tactical combat knife pressed flat against Seraphina's pale throat.
"Ahhhhh!"
The crew erupted into terrified screams. Half of them scrambled backward, stumbling over cables in their rush to escape.
"Ah, ah, ah! Nobody move!" Gael barked, her eyes sweeping over the panicked room like a hawk. She locked onto a cameraman who was reaching for the broadcast switch. "Hey! Keep your hands off that rig! You cut this feed, and I'll slice her carotid artery wide open. Try me."
The cameraman froze, absolutely petrified.
Sinclair and Bianca shot out from behind the monitors, stopping several feet away when they saw the steel gleaming against Seraphina's skin.
No one dared to move closer.
But millions of people were watching this live! They had to shut it down!
"Miss!" Sinclair yelled, holding his hands up placatingly. "I don't know what kind of grudge you have against her, but holding her hostage on a live broadcast is a felony! Put the weapon down—"
"Shut up," Gael sneered, cutting him off with a look of pure disgust. "Whether I catch a charge or not is my business. And for the record, I don't give a damn about her. I'm just here to ask a few questions on behalf of a friend."
"You can ask whatever you want!" Bianca pleaded, her voice cracking. "Just please, put the knife away! This is a PR nightmare! Let us turn off the cameras!"
"Nobody touches the cameras!" Gael ordered, her tone brokering no argument. She looked down at Seraphina, who was trembling violently in her grip.
"Now, Miss Simpson. I'm going to ask you a few questions. I highly suggest you tell the truth. Because every time a lie leaves your mouth, this blade gets a little closer to your throat. Understand?"
Seraphina was entirely catatonic with fear. Her eyes were blown wide, her lips quivering as cold sweat beaded on her forehead and rolled down her face.
"G-Gael... you're insane," Seraphina swallowed hard, desperately trying to keep her composure. "We're in public! Aren't you afraid of going to prison?"
