Chapter 116 Storming the Tower

Riley didn’t even have a second to process what was happening before she spotted a Nightfall sentry about forty feet away suddenly go rigid, then drop to the ground without a sound. A shadow shifted behind him– PineappleBeer’s figure flickered for an instant before melting back into the darkness.
“Clean work,” Riley muttered under her breath.
She had to give credit where it was due–everyone had their own skill set. That kind of silent takedown wasn’t her style.
But she had her own methods.
Riley pulled a “Blast Molotov” from her inventory. The thing was cheap to craft–just kerosene and a glass bottle- but since it was single–use, she didn’t carry many. Tonight felt like the right occasion.
“If we’re crashing their party, we might as make some noise.”
Staying low, she used the night and the uneven terrain as cover, moving steadily toward the penned area where the monsters were being held.
Only three guards were patrolling the cages just then.
“God, this cold is brutal,” one of them grumbled, rubbing his gloved hands together. “The boss really knows how to pick our shifts. Standing out here juicing up monsters…if one of these things gets loose, we’re dead first.”
“Quit whining and keep an eye out. Did you send that snow ape through yet?”
“Yeah, it’s gone. Some poor settlement out there probably just got wiped off the map. Feels kinda good, not gonna lie.”
“Once the retrieval team brings back the loot, the boss’ll spread it around. We’ll be sitting pretty. No more scraping for supplies in the ruins.”
Just as the words left his mouth–
“Whoosh.”
An arrow cut through the dark and struck the energy stone slot on the teleporter array dead center.
“Boom.”
The unstable energy crystals detonated on impact.
The blast hurled two nearby guards backward. The array flickered, sputtered, and died.
“We’re under attack!!”

The remaining guard screamed, fumbling for the alarm panel on his belt.
A blue axe blade flashed down.
*Thud.”
His head hit the frozen ground.

Riley stepped out of the shadows, kicked the body aside, and scanned the rattling cages around her. Dozens of glowing red eyes locked onto her figure.
“ROOOAR!”
“Pipe down. I’m here to let you out.”
Riley hefted her axes and started hacking at the
cage
locks.
“Clang. Clang. Clang.”
The mechanisms shattered.
Doors swung open.

“Go on. Have fun with your handlers.”
A cold smirk touched Riley’s lips as she tossed the “Blast Molotov” through the doorway of the nearby guard shack.
“Boom-”
The explosion lit up the entire Dark Iron Camp.
Riley was already moving.
Freed and still furious, the snow apes and giant rats surged forward, slamming into the Nightfall members rushing toward the commotion.
“Shit–the monsters are loose!”
“My leg! Get it off me!”
“Who opened the cages?! Find them!”
The outer perimeter descended into pure chaos.
And within that chaos, a shadowy figure slipped from one patch of darkness to the next, efficiently picking off isolated squad leaders.
Gripping her axes, Riley made straight for the black tower at the center of the camp while everyone was distracted.

She kicked aside a Nightfall grunt who lunged at her, then glanced at a notification flashing on her wrist display.
A voice message from TartKing.
Wind howled in the background–she was clearly posted at her own door, and she sounded tense.
“TartKing: Boss! Are you and PineappleBeer inside the Nightfall base yet? How’s it going? I want to help!”
“SpicyBurger: Don’t sweat it.
“SpicyBurger: We’re already in. Your only job right now is to stay safe. Oh, and bake a couple more trays of those cakes. We’ll need something to celebrate with when we get back.”
After sending the reply, Riley shoved the tablet back into her inventory.
“Let’s move!”
She called toward the shifting shadows beside her.
The air wavered slightly. PineappleBeer flickered into view, her dagger still wet.
One visible, one unseen, they entered the tower together.
“BOOM–!!!”
A heavy kick from Riley blew the thick black–iron doors inward. The reinforced panels crumpled like foil and crashed onto the stone floor.
The interior of the tower lay exposed.
It was a vast circular hall. The walls were lined with rows of pale human skulls, each eye socket flickering with sickly green flame. In the center stood an altar carved with deep, blood–red runes.
And seated on a black iron throne above it was Nightshade, white smiling mask in place, a gnarled bone staff in hand.
Beneath him stood seven or eight fully armored elite guards.
At their head was that bald guy Riley recognized–Nightfall’s vice guild leader.
He stood now clutching a massive battle–axe, staring in disbelief at the blown entrance.
As the dust settled, revealing Riley standing there with twin axes, radiating cold intent, and PineappleBeer materializing silently beside her like a vengeful spirit, his eyes widened in raw terror.
