Chapter 140 Different Timelines
“Don’t say that! Hold on!”
Completely unaware of the trap, Gentle Soul hurried over with long strides. “I’ve got you! Let me patch you up!”

From her perch in the tree, Riley’s fingers rested lightly on the crossbow at her waist. This GentleSoul might have been a bit too trusting, but his heart was in the right place. In this shattered world, there weren’t many left who still clung to that kind of naive decency.
But before Riley could line up her shot on Stalker, the situation took a sharp turn.
Gentle Soul was moving too fast, driven solely by the urge to help. He didn’t notice the patch of earth beneath his feet was a shade darker than the rest.
Just three steps from Stalker, the second he stepped within the gaudy flowers’ attack range, the pained weakness on his face melted into a twisted smirk. He snatched a rough, palm-sized stone from his coat and hurled it downward.
“Shock Stone!”
“Bang!”
The stone struck the ground beside GentleSoul, and the earth erupted in violent tremors.
Caught off-balance, GentleSoul’s knees gave way, sending him stumbling forward.
“Sorry, pal. I’ll make good use of your supplies.”
Stalker took a careful step back, clear of the danger zone.
The next instant-
“BOOM-!!!”
The quiet cluster of shrubs exploded. A massive, tooth-filled maw burst from the soil like a monstrous steel-jaw trap, snapping shut around the stumbling man in one fluid motion.
“Aaaagh-!!!”
୮
A piercing scream cut through the woods, quickly drowned out by the sickening crunch of bone and the wet, grinding sounds of chewing.
The Corrupted Mawbloom’s bud clenched tight, pulsing like a grotesque meat sac. Muffled thuds came from within, and dark blood began to seep between its thick petals, staining the forest floor crimson.
‘System Alert: Player ‘GentleSoul’ has been eliminated.
“Remaining players in zone: 9/10,000.”
Stalker watched from a safe distance, his eyes gleaming with greed as the flower bud convulsed.
“Just die already… Once it’s done, everything you dropped is mine.”

Chapter 140 Different Timellues
He licked his lips, muttering to himself, “With what I got off Little Red earlier.. this is a major score. Can’t believe there are still
marks this easy to play.”
Up in the tree, Riley had been a moment too slow-or perhaps, human treachery had simply been a beat faster. That GentleSoul, right up until the moment the man-eating plant swallowed him, had still been clutching that handful of herbs in his fist.
Riley quietly loaded a magazine/of specially-tempered iron bolts into her crossbow.
“Click.”
The soft cocking sound was barely a whisper.
Below, Stalker was still waiting for the Corrupted Mawbloom to spit out the loot.
Through her scope, Riley’s crosshairs settled steadily on the base of Stalker’s skul
She squeezed the trigger.
“Thwump-hiss!!!”
A blue streak tore through the air.
34
Barely had a cold prickle tingled at the nape of Stalker’s neck when a sharp schlick cut through the air; the bolt, driven with brutal force, pierced straight through his throat, pinning him to the ground amid a billowing spray of blood mist.
“Guh… gurgle…”
Stalker clutched his neck, eyes wide with shock. He tried to speak, but his throat was ruined-all that escaped was a wet, leaking
rasp.
The damage wasn’t immediately fatal. Realizing where the shot had come from, Stalker rolled desperately to avoid a follow-up, scrambling behind the thick trunk of an ancient oak.
Riley dropped from the branch, using her axes to scrape against the bark and control her descent, landing smoothly on the soft
earth.
Behind the tree, Stalker fumbled two healing vials from his inventory, downed them, and drew his longsword.
But no footsteps came from the other side.
୮
Just as he risked a glance, a figure appeared soundlessly to his left. He spun, sword rising, but a swift kick sent the blade flying from his grip.
Standing before him was a woman in full tactical armor.
When his eyes met Riley’s icy stare, the greed in his gaze twisted instantly into terror.
“Pl… please…”
He mouthed the word soundlessly.
Riley watched him without expression, raised her crossbow, and aimed between his eyes.
“Thud.”
