Chapter 150 Caught in the Middle
Chapter 150 Caught in the Middle
A glowing egg hovered over the giant wolf’s shaggy chest.

It was roughly the size of a basketball, with swirling patterns of red and blue light across its shelt. In the chaos of the battlefield, it stood out like a neon sign.
“Unhatched Alpha Egg”
So this was all about snatching a baby. Riley had to admit, going toe-to-toe with a level 25 Alpha didn’t seem worth the trouble. But since when did magical beasts wear their eggs like some kind of pendant? The game developers really would throw in anything for drama.
“SKREEEE-!!!”
Just then, one of the survivors near the edge fumbled their aim. A wayward “Explosive Fireball” went off-right on the wolf king’s backside.
The Alpha yelped in pain. All that careful movement to protect the egg went out the window.
It let out a furious howl, and a wave of pressure burst outward from its body.
“ROOOAR-!!!”
A shockwave of ice and fire exploded from its core.
“BOOM!”
The front line of WarWolf’s crew, who’d been tightening the circle, were sent flying. Four or five of them tumbled across the dirt like
bowling pins.
A gap opened in their formation.
And as luck would have it, that gap pointed straight toward the redwood where Riley was perched.
The wolf king didn’t waste a second. It bolted for the opening-no looking back, just pure escape instinct.
“The boss is running!”
“After it! Don’t let it take the egg!”
“Cut it off! Somebody stop it!”
All forty-plus players erupted at once.
WarWolf and the solo survivors, who’d been tripping each other up just moments before, suddenly found common cause: get the egg first.
What followed was pure chaos.
A giant wolf sprinting full-tilt, chased by a screaming mob of players. Ice spikes, earth spears, arrows-everything they had was flung at the fleeing Alpha like confetti.

Meanwhile, that big guy with the greatsword poured on the speed and finally managed to cut off the Flame Wolf King’s path.
“This show… is heading right toward me, isn’t it?”
Riley swallowed the last bite of her beef jerky and felt a knot form in her stomach.
Somehow, in its panic, the wolf king had dragged the whole fight directly beneath her tree.
Up in the branches, she was safe in theory-but that didn’t make the scene below any less dangerous.
“Time to go.”
She made up her mind. No more watching. Riley started climbing down the opposite side of the trunk. None of this was her problem. Better to meet up with TartKing and get out of here.
But the battle below only intensified.
The greatsword guy swung his blade hard, his class skill flaring to life. A protective glow enveloped him-clearly some kind of damage resistance buff. With backup from a couple of support players, he managed to hold the line against the wolf king’s furious swipes.
The Alpha, stuck with these humans clinging to it like glue, grew more agitated by the second. It kept lashing out with its claws.
At the same time, a few staff-wielding players in the back began charging their spells.
Just as the wolf king darted under Riley’s tree-planning to use it as a launchpad to leap over the greatsword guy and vanish into
the woods-
Several WarWolf mages unleashed a combined “Explosive Fireball” from behind.
“BOOM!”
The spell struck the wolf king mid-leap. Sparks and flames erupted in every direction.
Knocked off balance in the air, the Alpha was thrown sideways.
And that red-and-blue egg, caught in the blast, tore free from the wolf king’s fur and went sailing upward.
“Whoosh-”
It flew high. It flew far.
Right toward Riley on the branch.
She was just turning to slip away quietly when a blur of light shot toward her face.
Instinct kicked in faster than thought.
Without thinking, she reached out and grabbed it.
“Thud.”
The glowing egg landed squarely in her arms.

Riley stared down at it.
Red and blue light pulsed gently across its surface. It felt warm and smooth, almost like polished stone.
