Chapter 157 The Monkey King’s Banquet

Chapter 157 The Monkey King’s Banquet

“Hehe, I just have a way with the locals.

“These herbs were dirt cheap. I traded about twenty mini-cakes and they gave me the whole lot.”

TartKing happily shoved the bundles of herbs into her bag.

Riley didn’t hold back either.

She swept up the herbs, ores, and rare materials. In exchange, she left a mountain of Ration Crackers and Canned Goods for the

apes.

Everyone walked away happy-the apes had a mountain of food, and the human had a mountain of loot.

Night fell.

The temperature in the forest plummeted, and the wind outside wailed like a banshee.

But inside the hollow, it was warm and cozy.

Since the Deadwood Grove was a tinderbox, open flames were strictly banned.

But the clever apes had a workaround.

The King ordered several elite apes to haul in massive Glow-Crystals from the depths of the hollow.

The stones radiated a soft, warm yellow light that not only lit up the entire cave but also gave off a gentle heat, acting like natural space heaters.

“Let’s get this party started!”

TartKing pulled out a batch of Honey Spongecakes she’d baked specifically for the dungeon.

“Screech!”

The apes sat in a circle, scratching their heads in excitement. They copied TartKing, sitting cross-legged on the furs and stuffing their faces with cake, frosting smeared everywhere.

Riley sat in a quieter corner, leaning against the warm wood. She took a small sip from a bottle of the Primal Brew she’d traded for earlier.

It was crisp on the entry with a long, mellow finish.

“System: Consumed Primal Brew. Stamina fully restored. All attributes increased by 5% (Duration: 1 hour). All attributes +2 (Permanent).”

“Lv 10: Experience overflow stored.”

“Strength: 32+2=34+2=36 (32 when switching to Arbalest)”

“Now that’s a good vintage.”

She narrowed her eyes comfortably.

Nearby, TartKing was on a video call with PineappleBeer.

In the holographic projection, PineappleBeer was sitting on a massive ruin, with a desolate wasteland behind her.

PineappleBeer spoke up, “So you’re telling me you’re partying with monkeys? Drinking epic-tier brew? I’ve only ever seen that stuff in trades; I had no idea you could farm it like that.”

She took a vicious bite of her own dungeon rations.

PineappleBeer continued, “I’m still a half-day’s walk from you guys, maybe a full day if I keep hitting mobs along the way!”

TartKing replied, “Don’t sweat it, PineappleBeer! I saved the best stuff for you! Look at these Gilded Dates the King saved just for you!”

She held up a shimmering golden fruit to the camera.

PineappleBeer crossed her arms. “Glad someone has a conscience. Anyway, I gotta go. I had some decent luck in these ruins and found two Silver Chests. The loot is looking good.”

SpicyBurger reminded her, “Stay safe.”

PineappleBeer nodded, “You know it. Enjoy your party. I’ve got work to do-just spotted a monster.”

The call ended.

Riley looked up to find a shadow looming over her.

A young ape was crouching beside her, clutching one of the Scrap Wooden Bows she’d tossed them earlier,

It was trying to copy the elite apes, but its grip was wrong and it didn’t have their raw power. The string kept snapping against its arm, making it wince in pain, but it clearly didn’t want to put the new toy down.

Seeing Riley look over, it shrank back a bit but eventually held the bow out with a tentative, “Screech?”

Riley looked at the little guy.

He reminded her of Neeko back home.

Neeko was the same at the start-curious about human tools but clumsy as all hell.

The coldness in Riley’s eyes softened a fraction.

She set her bottle down and took the bow.
