Beside the stream grew a few reed-like plants, but instead of fituff, they were topped with clusters of translucent, grape-like fruits.

Bursting Crystal Grapes

TartKing’s eyes lit up. “My gut says those would make an insane pudding! But honestly, I’m a little scared to touch them.”

Riley finished gathering the Ganoderma and looked over.

“I don’t see any health bars. They should be just regular plants. I’ll keep watch, you go ahead.”

“Got it.”

They moved in sync.

Riley stood guard with her arbalest while TartKing moved in cautiously.

The moment her fingers brushed against a grape…

Splash!

The peaceful stream suddenly erupted!

A translucent, ribbon-like creature, almost invisible against the water, shot out!

It had no eyes, only a circular mouth filled with rows of razor-sharp teeth. It looked like a giant leech, aiming straight for TartKing’s

arm!

Stalking Leech (Lv. 8)

“Aah!” TartKing scrambled back.

Thrum-Whiz!

She didn’t even need to scream for help.

Riley, who had been watching the water the whole time, reacted instantly.

The arrow caught the leech right in its gaping mouth!

Squeltch!

Before the leech could even bite down, the bolt transfixed it, pinning it to the trunk of a crystal tree on the opposite bank.

“You good?”

Riley kept her aim on the water, eyes cold as she scanned for more. Once she was sure it was clear, she stepped over.

“I’m… I’m fine…”

TartKing panted, clutching her chest. “How was that thing even invisible?!”

Seeing no further danger, TartKing went back and harvested the Bursting Crystal Grapes. She picked one and held it up.

“It doesn’t look poisonous. Well, if it is, my stomach will let me know soon enough.”

She squeezed the grape, popping the skin.

“Woah, it’s like pure grape flavor but way sweeter.” She offered a bunch to Riley.

Riley hesitated but ultimately resisted the temptation.

“One of us needs to stay focused. If these have some weird side effect, we’re sitting ducks. You eat ’em, I’ll wait until we get back to camp.”

TartKing, however, couldn’t stop. She was soon stuffing her mouth with the sweet fruit.

“Okay, okay. These are so sweet, there’s no way they’re toxic. I’m gonna grab as many as I can. They’re too good to pass up.”

With her cheeks bulging like a squirrel’s, she kept harvesting.

“Riley, give me a sec. I’ve only got a few slots left; I’ll grab two stacks and then we move.”

They continued deeper into the forest.

As they explored, they encountered more bizarre creatures.

There were Mirage Butterflies that spat sleep-inducing pollen, Blast-Shell Turtles that looked like rocks but exploded if stepped on, and Saber-tooth Rabbits that looked cute until they opened their mouths.

But the Riley-TartKing duo was on a roll.

Riley handled the “Physical Exorcism,” and TartKing handled the “Logistics Support.”

“You look tired, Boss! Eat this!”

TartKing handed her a piece of Mint Chocolate (Stamina Recovery +10%).

“That mob has high defense! Eat this!”

She shoved a Spicy Meat Floss Cake (Armor Pen +5%) at her.

With an endless supply of buffs, Riley went on a killing spree. By the time they stopped, both of their experience bars had surged.

Riley was still capped at Level 10, but her stored XP was already enough to hit Level 13 (120/500). The moment she got her Class Change, her level would skyrocket.

They wandered through the forest until late afternoon.
