Chapter 165 The Grove Gardener
Chapter 165 The Grove Gardener
Riley let out a short laugh.
She walked to the swing and touched the vines. They felt warm and full of life.
In a survival game defined by slaughter and death, finding a sanctuary like this was surreal.
“Riley, don’t just stand there! Sit down!”

TartKing had already collapsed into a wicker chair, sipping her tea with a look of pure bliss. “The tea is actually drinkable! It has a
buff! Restores stamina!”
Riley looked around and finally let her guard down.
She tucked her dual axes away and sat in the other chair.
As she rocked back and forth, she watched the blue sky and the drifting light–butterflies.
“If I didn’t know the world had ended, I’d think I was on a private island vacation.”
Riley took a sip of the tea.
The warmth slid down her throat.
“I wish Neeko and PineappleBeer were here,” Riley said softly.
“Don’t worry, Riley. Once we’re rich, we’ll buy this place and turn it into our base!” TartKing said, dreaming big.
“Buy it?”
Riley smiled. “It’s an instance. We can’t take it with us.”
The breeze in the garden carried a
cent of blackt
tea.
Riley rocked gently in her chair, holding her Darjeeling. For the first time in a long time, she let her mind go blank. Her stamina and mana were recovering rapidly thanks to the tea. She was so relaxed she could have fallen asleep right there.
“Riley, look over there.”
TartKing, who was busy devouring tea cakes, nudged her with an elbow. Her mouth was full of cookie. “That little guy has been busy for a while now.”
Riley looked in the direction she was pointing.
In a corner of the garden, a small creature was struggling to drag a rubber hose.
It looked like a sentient tree stump.
Its skin was dark brown bark, and a few bright green leaves grew from its head (with a tiny flower that bloomed when it was happy). Its eyes were two shiny black acorns.
It was wearing miniature denim overalls and holding a tiny trowel and pruning shears.

Grove Gardener (Special Unit)
Race: Dryadkin
Habits: Taciturn. Passionate about gardening. Skilled with various tools. Hates anyone who damages plants.
Specialty: Advanced Planting, Plant Acceleration, Garden Maintenance. Can also handle basic home management.
Status: Working (Ignoring players).
The little guy was treating Riley and Tartking like they were invisible.
It loosened the soil for a wilting rose, and as its fingers glowed green, the flower bloomed instantly. Then it scurried to the railing to expertly prune some overgrown vines, its movements fluid and practiced.
Riley watched it, her eyes narrowing.
She had Auto–Planter Slots, but those were just machines. How could they compare to a Dryadkin with literal magic growth skills?
“TartKing.” Riley said, her voice low.
“Yeah?”
“Do you think we can catch that thing with an orb too? It looks like the old Archmage’s little butler. If I bring it back, I’ll have a never–ending supply of fresh strawberries and veggies.”
TartKing blinked, then nodded vigorously. “I don’t care whose butler t is, it’s adorable! Way cuter than those monkeys! Give it a shot!”
Riley pulled a Basic Sealing Orb from her bag and stood up.
Then, she hesitated.
Based on past experience, to capture a mob, you usually had to beat it half to death and then throw the orb–unless there was a massive level gap.
But this little treant…
Watching its hardworking back as it watered the plants, Riley couldn’t bring herself to hit it with an axe.
“Whatever, let’s just try once.”
She didn’t move from her chair, she just gave the orb a casual toss.
The blue orb arched through the air and hit the little treant right on its wooden head.
