Chapter 196 Back To Reality
Chapter 196 Back To Reality
Riley rose in one fluid motion, her dual axes sweeping forward.
Swish-
The survivor on the left felt a sudden chill at his neck as his vision began to spin.

A heartbeat later, his body hummed with a low vibration before dissolving into a cloud of white particles.
A loot orb clattered to the ground in his place.
White light…
Riley let out a breath of relief as she watched the particles fade.
“The Long Night is over; death mechanics have reverted to normal. That’s a relief.”
Since people weren’t actually being erased anymore, she had no reason to hold back. She stepped forward and finished off the first ambusher.
Riley turned her cold gaze toward the last man standing, an archer who had literally wet himself.
“Miss! Please don’t! I messed up! I didn’t know who I was messing with!”
The archer begged for his life, staring at the empty spots where his teammates had been deleted seconds ago.
Riley looked down at him and delivered one final, silent axe swing.
“Is… is that it?”
Nobody asked, staring blankly at the scene which had unfolded in less than twenty seconds.
Two teammates dead in an instant, and the third sent packing.
“What else did you expect?” Riley sat back on the rock and sifted through the dropped loot. “Peasants. Nothing but basic herbs and low–tier materials. No wonder they’re out here robbing people.”
That was so cool!
Just as Riley predicted.
Throughout the night, two more groups of “noobs” were drawn in by her golden glow like moths to a
flame.
The results were identical every time.
They were either sent back to the wastes by Riley’s axes or caught in Nobody’s freshly set traps before being picked off like moles in a game.

Riley eventually got tired of it and started leaving one survivor alive after a thorough scaring. Word spread, and the later groups started thinking twice.
By the second half of the night, it was time for the shift change.
PineappleBeer walked out of the hollow with a wide yawn, followed by ToxicReaper who was still rubbing sleep from his eyes.
“How was it? Anyone get a hit on you?” Pineapple Beer asked, noticing the new loot bags on the ground.
“Nothing to worry about, just a few mosquitoes. I didn’t want to wake you guys up for garbage,” Riley said. standing and dusting off her pants. “They were all broke anyway. It’s your watch now; I’m heading to bed.”
“Sure thing, get some rest.”
Nearby, ToxicReaper pulled out a bottle of green liquid and began spraying a perimeter around the camp.
The final day of the instance flew by.
Once the sun rose, a strange peace settled over the forest.

The remaining survivors had clearly realized Riley’s group was a death trap, and no one dared to approach.
Other parts of the forest were a different story; players were finally baring their fangs and slaughtering each other for rank.
Riley and her group had seen this all before in the dungeon, so they remained unfazed.
On the global channel, the Deadwood Grove was becoming a legend; some called it the home of a bloodthirsty witch, others spoke of a Monkey Priest who commanded an army.
The rumors grew more bizarre by the hour, even suggesting the clearing was a trap set by monkeys or that the “witch” was a shapeshifting beast.
Riley and the others didn’t care what people said; the scarier the rumors, the quieter their camp remained.
They all cherished those final few hours.
Riley stopped the relentless grinding and instead led the group in fortifying the camp and then dismantling the traps for salvage.
They were leaving soon, and since materials couldn’t be taken out, she wasn’t about to leave them for the next person..
The monkeys didn’t know their friends were leaving, but they appreciated the help they’d received.
The old leader led the troop to Riley, offering a final gift: a mountain of fresh Thunderfruit and a bottle of Primal Brew for each of them.
