Riley pointed to the ring of land outside the wall. “Don’t plant near the main gate; leave me some space there. You can farm anywhere else.”

“Yes, my lady!”

Joseph and his nephews immediately began hacking at the earth with their hoes like men possessed.

Riley wasn’t idle; she handled the zoning.

Just then, the “Construction Manager,” Little Tree, marched out of the house.

“Groot!”

The treant waved its vines, scooping up the stones Joseph and the others had dug out.

Under the vines’ pressure, the jagged rocks were woven into neat stone slabs and laid between the furrows to form clean garden paths.

Not only that, but the treant walked to the boundary where the altar’s warmth met the cold air.

That was the line between ice and black soil.

Little Tree asked Riley for more stones and built a ring of 1.6-foot-high basins along that perimeter.

Riley realized what it was doing and her eyes lit up.

“Brilliant.”

Riley gave the treant a thumbs-up.

By shoveling snow into these perimeter basins, the ambient heat from the altar’s edge would melt it into water. Then, through stone channels, it would irrigate the fields.

It was a fully automated, temperature-controlled irrigation system!

With the infrastructure set, it was time to sow.

Riley handed over the wheat seeds she’d harvested yesterday for them to plant.

The space around the camp was huge; it was more than enough for them, and with the world’s insane growth rates, food was guaranteed.

After delegating the farm work, Riley didn’t just lounge at home.

Though she had supplies, “living off her savings” wasn’t her style; others were getting stronger, and if she fell behind, she’d be a lamb to the slaughter.

She could be kind, but she could never be weak. Power was the only true leverage.

Chapter 218 The Scavenger

She hadn’t brought Neeko today, so Ash stayed behind as well.

Riley adjusted her gear and titles before skiing back into the storm.

Luck was still on her side today.

Maybe the post-Long Night drop bonus was still active; she found two Silver Chests and one Gold Chest.

“Obtained: High-End Down Duvet x 2”

“Obtained: Canned Coffee Beans x 11 lbs”

“Obtained: Generator Components x 5”

“Obtained: Life Crystal x 5”

“Obtained: Birch Saplings x 5”

“Obtained: Potato Seeds”

“Obtained: Orange Tree Seeds”

“Not bad. All hard currency.”

Riley stuffed the loot into her seemingly bottomless “Scavenger’s Pagk of Greed.”

With a hundred slots, she didn’t have to worry about running out of space for variety.

Iron, copper, leather, and all sorts of basic materials.

As the sky dimmed and a weird aurora flared on the horizon, Riley dragged her heavy pack back home.

From afar, her fortress looked like a lighthouse, casting a warm yellow glow across the dark wastes.

Approaching the wall, she was surprised to see the seeding was already finished.

The black earth was turned and leveled; seeds were nestled in the dirt, beginning to germinate under the altar’s influence. On the edge of the furrows, Joseph had even built crude scarecrows.

Though with this blizzard, Ash was the only bird Riley had ever seen.

“My lady! You’ve returned!”

Joseph was patrolling the stone wall near the mine with his nephew; they stood at attention the moment they saw her.
