Chapter 230 Crossing the Abyss
“But… no defense holds forever.”
Riley could see the writing on the wall.

WarWolf was bombarding the walls with ranged attacks. A Level 4 camp didn’t have a mana shield, and WarWolf seemed to have an endless supply of arrows.
Once the wall broke, knowing WarWolf’s track record, the neighbors would be slaughtered to the last person.
“When the lips are gone, the teeth are cold,” Riley sighed, citing the old proverb.
“I don’t know this Drifters VP, but I absolutely cannot let WarWolf set up a base right on my doorstep.”
That camp was less than two miles from her Dawn Watcher Fortress.
If WarWolf took that spot, Riley would have to sleep with one eye open, even with the chasm in between.
Besides, this meant a WarWolf outpost was likely not that far from her own camp either.
“Guess I’ll join the party.”
Riley stood up and looked across the sixty-five-foot chasm.
This was the primary obstacle.
“Ash isn’t here, and even if he were, he’s too small to carry me across.”
“The skis won’t make a jump that wide.”
Riley rummaged through her inventory but couldn’t find a professional tool like a grappling hook launcher.
“Time for the low-tech solution.”
She pulled six Refined Iron Spears from her bag. These were standard crafts-no stats, but incredibly sturdy.
She then pulled out several bundles of rope, tying one end of each rope securely to the tail of

a spear and the other end to her own harness.
Riley weighed a spear in her hand.
The solid iron spear weighed over thirty pounds, but in her hand, it felt as light as a toothpick.
She took a deep breath, stepped back, and channeled her power through her core into her arm muscles.
WHIZ-!!!
The spear let out a sharp sonic boom as it left her hand!
It became a black streak of lightning, crossing the chasm in a heartbeat and slamming into the ice cliff on the far side.
Thud!
A heavy impact.
Through her binoculars, she saw the spear had buried itself over halfway into the ice, leaving only the tail visible.
“Secure.”
Riley repeated the process twice more, creating a triangular anchor point.
She gave the ropes a sharp tug; they snapped taut. A makeshift safety line was ready.
But Riley looked at the ropes, then back at the distance to the other side.
For some reason, she felt like she could just make the jump.
It was a mad thought.
A sixty-five-foot standing jump? That was for superheroes.
But Riley was pretty much a superhero at this point.
Her Agility was 40 and her Strength was 61. Combined with the movement speed bonus from her gear, her explosive power had long since transcended human limits. Her daily feats of athleticism gave her a lot of confidence.
“Double security, just in case.”

Riley checked her harness and then stepped back over a dozen paces.
She began to sprint.
Just as she reached the edge, Riley triggered her class skill-Charge.

There was no enemy in front of her, but the instantaneous burst of speed was very real.
She took flight in a blur, her body tracing a high arc through the air.
The wind roared in her ears as the abyss opened its maw below.
The sensation of flying sent her adrenaline through the roof.
Thirty feet… fifty feet… sixty feet…
Gravity began to win, and the feeling of falling set in.
She was about six feet short, but that was enough.
Riley began to drop; after falling about ten feet, she slammed into the ice wall.
Simultaneously, her dual axes swung out.
CRACK!!
