No blood splattered across the air.
The moment the massive hellhound’s head touched Riley’s skin, it phased straight through her body
Riley kept her eyes tightly closed, unaware of what had just happened.
Three seconds passed in her silent count.
There was no sharp, tearing pain she had braced herself for. Her gamble had paid off.
“It’s all fake.”
Riley slowly opened her eyes.
Half her body was overlapped by the monster’s ghostly form. Countless claws and fangs phased right through her without touching her.
She lifted her head, gazing through the overlapping monster illusions toward the gigantic blood-red eye floating in the sky.
“You can’t hurt me directly.”
Riley’s tone was eerily calm, cutting clearly through the hellish noise around her.
“Or maybe you simply cannot interfere with the real world. All your power only works on consciousness and illusions.
“You went through all this trouble to make me put on that mask because… you need my voluntary consent to descend into this world. Am I right?”
Every single monster froze mid-movement.
The blood-red eye in the sky narrowed sharply.
Dead silence fell over the realm.
Then, low laughter echoed slowly through the air.
It started faint, like wind sweeping through an empty valley, before growing louder until the entire space trembled under its weight.
There was no brutality or rage in this laughter anymore-only a hint of genuine admiration.
“Interesting.
“What an interesting human.”
Along with Baal’s laughter, the terrifying hellish scenery faded away like a receding tide.
The charred black soil turned back into soft white clouds. The hideous monsters dissolved into golden streams of light.

in the blink of an eye. Riley found herself standing on the white jade platform above the sea of clouds once more
The sunset glowed bright, and a told breeze brushed past her skin.
The colossal demon Baal still leaned on the platform edge, resting his chin on his crossed arms. His golden flamed eyes were files with playful amusement.
“Your mind is purer than I expected.”
“Thanks.”
Riley put away her dual axes and rubbed her throbbing temples.
“I just hate empty promises. Especially the ones I can never cash in.”
“Hmph.”
Baal let out a low snort. His massive figure gradually turned transparent, like fading smoke.
“Remember this, mortal.”
Right before vanishing completely, his deep voice echoed one last time inside Riley’s head.
“No human can stay free of obsession forever.
“As long as you hold desire and fear… we will meet again. (1)
“I will be waiting for that day.”
Whoosh-
The wind swept across the platform, and the demon disappeared entirely.
Riley stood alone on the floating platform above the endless clouds.
“He’s gone?”
Riley glanced around, finally relaxing her tensed nerves.
Before she could even catch her breath, violent energy fluctuations suddenly came from her inventory.
It was the mirror!
She pulled the mirror out instinctively.
The originally pitch-black surface now blazed with harsh white light. The twisted tentacle carvings on its edge wriggled wildly, as struggling to break free.
“What is this…”
Riley stared at the mirror surface.
The reflection showed the red-lit underground space-the real-world altar.

Chapter 293 The Mirror Retin
She saw a copy of herself standing there, frozen in the pose of staring down at the mirror.
Behind this mirrored version of herself stood a confused PineappleBeer, and Tartking gripping her greatsword.
A powerful suction force suddenly burst from the mirror.
The reflection expanded, spun, and twisted rapidly.
The pull did not only tug at her body-it grabbed straight onto her soul.
Severe dizziness washed over her.
“Ugh…”
