The gates of Riley’s camp slowly swung open.
The world outside was still freezing cold, but compared to the brutal blizzards from days prier, the weather felt almost pleasant.
The sky was a deep, clear blue. Cold sunlight glinted across the snowfields, casting sharp, blinding reflections.
The three girls stood at the gate. A flash of light appeared, and two heavy-duty snowmobiles materialized out of thin air
PineappleBeer hopped onto her bike with practiced ease. She slipped on her wind goggles and patted the empty back seat.
“Hop on, TartKing.”
“Whoa! You’re driving me?”
TartKing was ecstatic. She scrambled onto the back seat and wrapped both arms tightly around Pineapplebeer’s waist.
Riley climbed onto the second bike. Her long hair was tied into a high ponytail, swaying gently in the cold wind.
“Let’s go.”
Riley twisted the throttle and took the lead, speeding forward first.

PineappleBeer gripped the handlebars firmly and glanced back at Tartking.
“Hold on tight. This thing moves fast.”
“I’m not letting go!”
TartKing squeezed her arms tighter, pressing her whole body against PineappleBeer’s back.
The engines roared. The two bikes shot across the white tundra one after another, kicking up long swirling trails of snow behind them.
The wind howled past their ears.
TartKing squeezed her eyes shut, burying her face into PineappleBeer’s back. Her voice shook with excitement.
“Ahhh! Slow down! There’s a huge rock up ahead! Watch out!”
The bikes raced at high speed. It was TartKing’s first ride, and she was absolutely thrilled. Her grip around PineappleBeer’s waist grew tighter and tighter.
“Whoa! Woohoo!”
Her joyful screams were swept away by the bitter wind across the snow plains.

Nine miles was nothing for the powerful snowmobiles. They arrived in just 20 minutes.
The system gave them a straight path with no unnecessary detours.
When a jagged cluster of rocks appeared on the horizon, Riley gradually eased off the throttle.
“We’re here.”
She swung one leg off the bike and game to a steady stop behind a massive boulder.
PineappleBeer followed closely behind. She pulled off a sharp drift, spraying a cloud of snow into the arr before stopping.
“This is the Tier 3 resource node?”
TartKing jumped off the bike and rubbed her wind-chapped red cheeks. She peeked forward curiously.

It was a small gravel pit nestled in a snow hollow. The place had once been a frozen riverbed, now exposing wide stretches of dark gray rock.
The spot was easy to miss among the endless snow plains. Right in the center of the gravel pit stood a translucent crystal pillar around half a yard tall.
