Chapter 312 Ghouls in the Dark
“Yeah, that’s right!”
“By the way, I heard there is a famous winery in High Court, right?”
“That’s exactly where we worked. We were delivering goods for that winery.”
“Really? Did you find the road to the city?”
Jack shook his head.
“A sudden heavy snowstorm hit us a few days ago. We lost our way, and all the familiar landmarks were gone.”
“I know that feeling.” The faint light in Joseph’s eyes died away.
“The same thing happened to us. After a heavy snow, our town and all the people there just disappeared.”
While they talked, someone suggested having a bonfire party.
Everyone agreed at once. They quickly built a large bonfire in the open space between the four small houses
All of them sat around the fire, chatting and having fun. The tall flames chased away the dark around them.
TartKing took the oak wine barrel out of her inventory. She also pulled out many small cakes she had made before.
“Come on! Help yourselves!”
With TartKing’s warm invitation, everyone grabbed snacks and poured themselves wine. Some even sang local folk songs, though Riley and the others could not understand the words.
The mood became lively. No one cared about status anymore. They held each other’s hands and danced together.
Even PineappleBeer, who rarely joined such activities, hummed along softly. She only showed this relaxed side to Riley and TartKing.
As the bonfire party came to an end, people sat around the dying fire. The dark night sky grew even darker.
“Awoo-”
A sharp, scary howl suddenly came from the dark snowy land far away.
Then came a second howl, and a third.
Many creepy low growls sounded one after another outside the camp’s warm zone.
In this world, the night belonged to monsters.
“What was that sound?!*
Jack was the first to notice something was wrong. As a guard, his body tensed up at once.
He held the iron sword at his side and stared seriously into the dark distance.
Chapter 31Z GNOUIS in the Dark
“What kind of creature is making that noise?!”
Anna and Lily also looked into the darkness. Many dark shadows moved in the night, mixed with wild roars.
Before Jack could draw his sword to get ready, a hand patted his shoulder.
“Calm down, man.”
Joseph still held a glass of wine. With his other hand, he gently pushed Jack back into his chair.
“They are just Ghouls. They walk around every night. It’s nothing. We are all used to them.”
“Walk around?!”
Jack’s eyes widened in shock, staring at Joseph’s calm face.
“Those monsters eat people! There must be hundreds of them out there! We don’t even have walls here…”
“Crunch.”
Joseph took a bite of bread and spoke with his mouth full.
“As long as Lord is here, you don’t have to worry about anything.”
Jack fell silent.
He looked around at everyone in disbelief.
TartKing was playing with a tablet with Neeko. PineappleBeer drank wine quietly beside Riley. Even Joseph’s two young nephew looked completely calm.
Except his own group, no one was scared at all.
Jack turned to Riley, who sat quietly on the ground. He looked at her, hoping to get a sure answer.
“They are just noisy.”
Riley finally spoke.
She frowned slightly, put down her wine cup, and looked toward the dark outside.
Ghouls hated the burning aura of the camp altar, so they would not come inside. Still, the large group of monsters ruined the mice mood.
