Chapter 662 Cracked Core
She had no choice but to block head–on with her greatsword.

The Frosted Judgment Greatsword collided violently with the enemy’s long blade. The Sweet Weight passive proc’d, turning the brute force of the impact into a thin protective shield. The shield shattered in the blink of an eye. TartKing’s arms went numb, and the sheer pressure pushed her sliding backward.
PineappleBeer stood right behind her, with almost nowhere left to retreat.
Riley charged in from the side, swinging her Storm Splitter Dual Axes toward the Gatekeeper’s waist and the back of its knees, one strike after another.
The Gatekeeper’s figure flickered and turned translucent.
Riley’s first axe missed completely, and the second only grazed the edge of its armor.
“It leaves afterimages!”
PineappleBeer’s warning came half a beat too late.
The real Gatekeeper appeared behind Riley, slashing its long blade diagonally toward her shoulder and neck.
Riley didn’t bother spinning around.
She dove forward half a step, letting the blade brush past her shoulder and narrowly missing a fatal hit. Her Cloak of Vitality’s shield shattered instantly, and her Crimson Scale Heart–Lock Underarmor heated up from the impact. Even so, the star track pull carried by the blade still sliced open her back, dropping a solid chunk of her HP.
TartKing’s heal landed on her immediately.
“Burger!”
Riley rolled across the ground, pushed herself up with one hand, and activated the slow effect from her Slowdown Ring on reflex.
The Gatekeeper’s movements slowed down for a full half second.
PineappleBeer forced herself to dart out from behind Tartking, stabbing her Time–Severing Shadow Blade straight for the core on the Gatekeeper’s chest. Even in her weakened state, her speed stayed sharp, and her attack angle was terrifyingly precise.
She used Shadow Shift to slip through the gap in the enemy’s blade.
Her short blade tapped the outer shell of the core.
Ding!
The core creaked open by the tiniest sliver.
PineappleBeer didn’t greed for more damage and pulled back at once.
But the second she stepped back, her face drained of all color.
A brutal headache exploded from the back of her skull, scrambling every star track in her vision. Her movements fraze for the

briefest moment.
The Gatekeeper twisted its blade toward her.

Riley charged forward sharply, shoving PineappleBeer out of the blade’s path. Her Earthen Battle Wristband flared up as she took the full blunt force of the attack with her body, the impact sending her sliding across the stone ground.
TartKing slammed her greatsword into the floor, using the recoil to dash over to PineappleBeer’s side.
“Pine, are you crazy?!”
PineappleBeer coughed, a faint trace of blood spilling from her lips.
“I almost had it.”
“Almost gets you sliced in half!”
TartKing was furious, but she never stopped channeling heals.
Riley pushed herself back to her feet. The healing had stabilized her shoulder wound, but her gear durability dropped noticeably. She quickly checked her status bar–sixty percent stamina left, low mental strain, and plenty of potions remaining.
Their problem wasn’t resource consumption.
They simply couldn’t land a solid hit on the core.
The Gatekeeper relied entirely on star tracks to reposition. Its movement routes looked fixed, but they shifted constantly based on the team’s positioning.
PineappleBeer could predict its path, but her crippling headaches kept holding her back. TartKing could block damage and heal, only filling in tiny gaps for damage and interrupts. Riley could tank and brawl up close, but the Gatekeeper refused to trade blows head–on.
If this dragged on, PineappleBeer would be the first to collapse.
Riley chugged a high–grade stamina potion and tossed the empty bottle aside.
“We’re switching tactics.”
TartKing panted heavily. “What should we do?”
“Force it onto a single track.”
Riley nodded at the frosted ground beneath their feet. “Tart, smash the lines with your greatsword. Don’t chase the boss–focus on
the tracks. Pine calls which one it’ll take.”
PineappleBeer lifted her head. Tiny silver–gray specks still lingered in her eyes, like unformed stardust.
“It’s gonna circle around from the rear right next.”
Riley gave a sharp nod.
“Strike it the second it shows.”

FartKing gripped her greatsword tight.
“I’ll do my best.”
The Star Track Gatekeeper raised its blade.
The silver line on the rear right flared to life.

Instead of waiting for the monster to fully appear, TartKing heaved her Frosted Judgment Greatsword and slammed it straight down on the glowing line.
The blade crushed into the track, sending ripples through the silver light.
The Gatekeeper froze mid–slide, unable to finish its repositioning.
Riley charged forward instantly, unleashing Cyclone Gale with her dual axes and sealing off its front and rear escape routes.
Her first axe struck its shoulder.
Her second axe hit the back of its knee.
The Gatekeeper blocked the shoulder strike with its long blade, but the knee landing connected cleanly, sending sprays of silver debris flying.
PineappleBeer darted in from the side, dragging her Time–Severing Shadow Blade along its ribcage. Time Distort triggered, laying a brief slow debuff on the Gatekeeper.
The monster’s movements dulled.
Seizing the opening, Riley smashed both axes straight into the core on its chest.
