Riley’s feet sank into the stone floor. Her knees buckled, and her health bar dropped sharply in an instant.
Her left arm suffered the worst of it.
Time froze for a split second where the claw’s aura grazed her. Her left hand went completely numb, and she nearly lost her grip on her axes.
The wrist–stabilizing stat on her Star–Breaker Gauntlets maxed out its glow, barely letting her hold her ground.
TartKing’s heals landed on her right away.
Her health climbed back up, but the numbness in her left arm never fully faded.
TartKing’s face turned pale.
“The heals aren’t working right!”
Riley gritted her teeth and retreated backward.
Pineapple Beer stood beside TartKing, looking even worse than before.
A third crack snaked across the crystal’s surface.
She lifted her hand, planning to use the crystal to block the monster’s next strike.
Riley grabbed her wrist firmly to stop her.
“Your state’s way too unstable. This crystal’s power is burning you dry.”
The Time Wraith Star–Eater Beast closed in once more.
Survivors fleeing nearby got caught in its residual aura. Their movements sped up and slowed down erratically. Some got dragged back to their original spots even after running dozens of yards away. Others had their shields shatter into light particles before they could even fully activate them.
Every last survivor was terrified out of their wits.
All the factions that’d teamed up to hunt Pineapple Beer earlier now only cared about saving their own lives.
Seeing the monster fixate entirely on PineappleBeer, the black sword man’s eyes flickered. He tried slipping away in the chaos.

Pineapple Beer caught his movement.
A faint, cold smile tugged at her lips.
“You sure run fast when it counts.”
The black sword man froze mid–step.
Pineapple Beer raised her hand.
Riley tried to stop her, but she was too late.
The crystal flashed brightly.

me warped violently right under the black sword man’s feet. He stumbled forward and fell
at on his face, narrowly avoiding the monster’s sweeping residual attack.
GreenPear instinctively reached out to pull him up.
Meanwhile, the silver–gray armored woman quietly stepped back.
Pineapple Beer noticed that detail.
The frost in her eyes deepened.
But the next second, the crystal’s backlash exploded out of nowhere.
Pineapple Beer swayed unsteadily, blood spilling from the corner of her mouth.
Scared out of her mind, TartKing hurried to hold her up.
“Stop using it! You can’t take any more of this!”
Pineapple Beer lifted her hand and wiped the blood away.
She stared straight at the Time Wraith Star–Eater Beast, her voice low and steady.
“I get it now.”
Riley turned toward her.
PineappleBeer’s gaze was clearer than it had been in a long while.

TartKing looked confused.
Riley half–understood her meaning.
“You were supposed to die by its hand before?”
PineappleBeer kept her eyes on the monster and didn’t deny it.

“I was always fated to die here. I just cheated death. Now it’s here to fix the unfinished ending.”
Every glowing eye on the beast lit up at once.
It opened its massive maw, revealing nothing but swirling starlight and churning black flames inside.
nd that terrifying power surged forth, the stone pillar barrier around the platform ard under the pressure. Fleeing survivors dropped flat to the ground. The reddish- eavy armor’s shields screeched in protest. Two layers of mage barriers from the dark- ction shattered instantly.
ey raised her dual axes in defense.
TartKing lifted her staff, stacking every shield and buff she had on all three of them. Her Radiant Prayer Crown, Vitality Silver Bell Wristband, and Warm Feather Blessing Charm all activated at max power. Her mental energy drained so fast her vision blurred. She bit down hard on her tongue to jolt herself awake and keep casting.
Pineapple Beer looked at the two people standing firmly in front of her.
A faint trace of heartache flashed in her eyes.
“Riley. Tart.”
TartKing glanced back. “Don’t worry, Pine! I’ll keep you safe!”
Pineapple Beer froze for a moment.
She tried to smile, but couldn’t bring herself to do it.
“It’s only after me.”
