711 The Camp’s Survivors
Joseph slammed his hammer against a metal bucket nearby.
The loud clang jolted everyone back to their senses.
“Resupply Watchtower Two with bolts! Rotate the guards on Tawer Three! Send firebombs to the southerty line in batches! Injured who can walk, head back to the tent on your own. Those who can’t, carry themlin pairs! The fight’s far from over!”
His voice was far rougher than it used to be.
Riley glanced at him.
Joseph had changed drastically.
When Riley first rescued him and brought him back to camp, he’d looked like a broken man crushed by the apocalypse. Simply staying alive had felt like a luxury to him back then.
Now he stood amid blood, mud and flickering flames. Half his face was covered in ash, and his body was clad in crudely pieced–together armor plates. Yet when he barked out orders, no one hesitated for a second.
Riley didn’t have the strength to spare any words of praise.
Their breakthrough back into camp had looked easy, but every move had drained her already depleted stamina.
“Let’s head inside first.”
Riley stowed her axe, her voice low and quiet. “This isn’t a good place to talk.”
TartKing nodded and lifted a hand, casting a healing glow over Joseph as well.
Joseph froze for a moment.
The faint golden light washed over the wounds on his shoulder, casing his sharp pain.
He parted his lips to thank her, but someone shouted for more arrows up ahead. He snapped right back to duty, yelling sharply, “Did the next crate from the tool shed get sent up yet? How much longer?!”
“Coming through!”
Two young natives ran over from the tool shed, carrying a full arrow crate. The lid sat slightly ajar, revealing brand–new finished arrows inside. The feathers still bore neat machine–pressed marks, and rows of sharp arrowheads glinted coldly in the dim light.
Riley’s footsteps paused as she took in the sight.
“You’ve been using the tool shed?”

Joseph pressed his lips tight.
Hinally seemed to realize he owed an explanation. A flicker of unease crossed his face, though he quickly smoothed it away.
“We have. I opened it up.
His voice was hoarse from overuse.
Riley glanced at him.
Joseph straightened his back and tightened his grip on his hammer. “You taught me the basic production interface before. You even let me practice crafting arrows there. After you got teleported away, our arrow stock only lasted half a day. The crossbow towers, hand crossbows and patrol teams all needed constant ammo. We never would’ve held on this long without the tool shed.”
The nearby natives subconsciously held their breath.
Everyone who’d stayed in camp long knew how important Riley’s tool shed was.
No one had ever dared touch it without permission.
Joseph had opened it and run it nonstop for days. He never would’ve done it if they hadn’t been desperate.
Riley stared at him for two seconds, then nodded.
“It’s fine. You did the right thing. Holding this camp together under these conditions? You’ve all done incredibly well.”
The tension in Joseph’s shoulders eased slightly.
Riley added, “Just make sure you keep a log of all the resources used.”
Joseph blinked in surprise.
TartKing almost laughed, her voice soft from exhaustion. “Seriously? After everything that’s happening right now, you’re still worrying about that?”
Riley kept a straight face.
“It’s all guild property. We need to keep clear records. Otherwise RedBean’s data logs will get messed up. We’ll be in trouble if we have to sort out the accounts later.”
The nearby natives didn’t know who RedBean was, but seeing the two of them banter casually eased the heavy pressure weighing over everyone. Having two versions of Riley here also gave them immense
reassurance.
Joseph let out a quiet laugh, only to start coughing halfway through.
He gestured toward the wooden shelter in front of the tool shed. “Let’s head inside and talk properly.”
