Chapter 720 Campfire Tales
It was not loud, but they had not heard laughter like that in a long time.
Riley had not planned on joining everyone.

She sat alone in front of the tool shed. TartKing had just redressed all her wounds and made her drink healing potions, but exhaustion kept weighing heavier on her body.
Every time she closed her eyes, she saw the swirling vortex in Floor 20, and she saw PineappleBeer.
TartKing looked just as worn out.
She leaned against the pillar, still gripping her staff. Her eyes were half-lidded, her eyelashes glowing bright under the firelight.
Riley looked up.
Many people beside the fire were watching them.
No one said anything, but the meaning in their eyes was obvious.
TartKing rubbed her face gently. “We should go show ourselves for a bit.”
Riley nodded and stood up.
TartKing pushed herself to her feet, using her staff for support.
Neeko followed right behind them. She took two steps forward and then hesitated, remembering she couldn’t shapeshift into Riley anymore. She fell into place obediently at Riley’s side.
The second Riley approached the fire, all chatter around the camp died down.
Riley dragged over an upside-down wooden crate and sat down casually.
“It’s fine. Carry on. Just no drinking for night watch.”
The crowd froze for a beat.
Joseph was the first to laugh. “You heard her. Night watch stays sober.”
The stiff atmosphere melted right away, and everyone relaxed again.

Someone handed Riley a bowl of hot stew, then pressed a freshly warmed loaf of bread into TartKing’s hands. TartKing took a bite and noticed shredded meat stuffed inside the bread.
Her eyes lit up. “This is really good.”
The survivor who’d handed it to her smiled at once. “There’s not much meat, so I chopped it fine and mixed it in. That way it stretches for more people.”
TartKing gave a thumbs-up. “Smart trick. Back where we came from, we call this a meat sandwich.
The person looked stunned, then hurried to grab another piece for Neeko.
Neeko held it with both hands. “Thank you. I love it.”
The cook reached out and ruffled her hair gently. “Have as much as you want, sweetie.”
Neeko’s ear tips twitched softly. She ducked her head and munched on the bread.
Near the fire, Rod was surrounded by a group of kids. Still a teen himself, he was always popular with the children in camp.
He’d taken a sip of the diluted fruit wine tonight. Firelight flushed his cheeks, and he suddenly perked up, full of energy.
“You kids have no idea how powerful Lady Riley truly is.”
All the kids crowded closer instantly.
“You saw it? You saw her fight?”
Rod jammed a wooden stick into the fire pit. “I never saw it with my own eyes, but I’ve been around the camp long enough. She can crack open mountains and split the earth with a single lift of her hand. She’s blessed with divine weapons.”
The kids gasped in amazement.
Rod puffed out his chest and kept going, spilling every rumor he’d ever heard.
“Back in the day, there was the Nightfall Guild. They robbed everyone and killed without mercy. You know what Lady Riley did? She snuck straight into their base with one other ally and took down their leader, Nightshade!”
“Just the two of them?” one kid asked.

Absolutely,” Rod said firmly.
Riley sat by the fire, sipping her stew with a blank expression.
Necko listened intently, nodding along in earnest.
Riley shot her a glance. “Why are you nodding?”
Neeko whispered, “Riley’s super strong.”
Riley fell silent.

On the other side of the fire, another survivor picked up the story, talking about the battle when the WarWolf laid siege to the camp.
“I saw that fight myself. Lady Riley stood alone on the wooden bridge over the ravine with no one behind her. So many of members from WarWolf charged forward, and she only had one axe. Anyone that crossed that bridge died instantly.
“Then the deep-layer monsters showed up. There was one as big as a mountain, big enough to swallow several people in one bite.
“Lady Riley charged straight into its mouth and fought her way back out!”
“No way, really?”
“It’s one hundred percent true!”
TartKing couldn’t hold back a quiet cough.
Riley slid her bowl toward her. “You choking on something?”
TartKing struggled to hold back her laughter. “No. I just… didn’t realize everyone had such good memories.”
Most of it had already twisted into full-on legend.
Some of the details were surprisingly accurate.
To survivors like them, those feats were just system abilities, gear effects, item combos, and calculated battle tactics. But to these native folks, Riley’s build panel, tool shed, equipment, skills, pets, and dungeon loot were no different from divine miracles.
